With BF3 launched, its time I get some headphones

Thread Starter
Allright, i've put this off for years as best I could. I live in in apt complex so its been a constant fight to keep my 5.1 surround sound system with my gaming rig upstairs at a resonable level while I play my games, much to the chagrine of my neighbors.

Now with the launch of BF3, and my new rig build and a new X-Fi Titanium to replace my aging Audigy 2, I wanna be able to crank up the sound at night but not shake the apt complex and my ass evicted. In short, I have no choice but to purchase some quality headphones for my night gaming sessions.

Im only wanting to spend around $100. I almost never use any type of voice chat, so I don't need headphones with a mic boom on them. The most important things im looking for are

1. Absolute comfort for hours of PC gaming
2. Good bass
3. All around good surround sound for gaming and some music listening.

I've looked around newegg but im having a hard time finding what im looking for, selection seems kinda limited.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...WS&PageSize=20

I would prefer buying something locally, even if it means going to Suck Buy so if I don't like it, I can return/exchange headphones easily.

What that said, what can you guys recommend me for a guy who would much prefer cranking up his logitech system for the sounds of warfare on BF3 but has to have it condensed into headset form that sounds real good also without breaking the bank?

I'm looking for the same thing actually, from the sounds of it, most people are recommending the ad700s or the sennheiser 555/558s. does anyone with actuall experience know which would be the better choice?

I own AD700s and my close friend owns HD555s. I can say that I much more enjoy the AD700s for gaming.

Buying Sleeping gas for all your neibhours would be much cheaper no?

I use pure 800 ear bud type headphones. They sound way better to me than any headset that I have ever tried. They seal off your ear so the bass is perfect and the highs and mids are crystal clear. I know amazon carries them, but if your on the west coast check costco's website, they carry them for a good price (thats where I got mine)

if your looking for a actual set of cans then maybe a AT700/900 or if your wanting to save some money then go with JVC rx 700s.

Ignore the AD700s. They don't have any bass, which takes the life out of plenty of music.

Your choices include head phones like the Audio Technica M50s, the Beyer Dynamic line or the Ultrasone line and some others of course. I think you can check all these headphones out if you have a local Guitar Center, but I'm not sure.

In the same position as you, I chose $167 250 Ohm Beyerdynamic DT 990 PROs from Amazon, they meet and excel in your three most important categories. That's not to say that any other choice wouldn't, because I don't know. The DT 990 Pros have a coiled cord whose weight will bother you. I have it resting on something so I don't feel it.

I'm doing the same thing as you, i've read that AD700s are great for games as there lack of bass means that hearing footsteps in game is great but that lack of bass isn't great for music. They also leak sound bad but i figure if i want to listen to music i have speakers

I have my JVC RX900's. I modded them with stiffening the can and also stuffing it until I was happy with the mids. Great headphone, too bass heavy when stock though.
