Secondly, the GUI was NOT that much different from phones before it. It was just a little more sleek, like I said before. It was "easier on the eyes", which is not necessarily aesthetically better. I never liked the look of the iPhone's GUI, even when I actually loved Apple products. "Light years ahead" is such an exaggeration it hurts. It was maybe, MAYBE 2 years ahead of it's time. I wouldn't even give it that much credit.

Thirdly, the release of the phone itself does not mean anything. Android was purchased in 2005 by Google while the company had already developed Alpha builds for it. Read carefully: the OS was around before, or at the same time, of the development of iPhone OS/iOS. It is a fact, do not try to deny that.

Lastly, the iPhone was not a market changer. It just made people who would not have paid that kind of money for a phone before, pay that much for a phone because of the brand name. Argue that all you want, but the general public didn't know who BlackBerry/RIM or Palm were, past seeing their high-priced products in the business world. Apple brought people into the world that already existed by marketing to the general public instead of the businessman.

So, again, Apple's only real strength in the war was marketing. It always has been, and always will be. Technologically, they are never ahead. Aesthetically, well, that's subjective.

Edit: I'm honestly just tired of the ignorant arguments on both sides. Neither is 'superior' to the other, but at least get your facts straight.

This is how android looked like before the iphone was released. If it weren't for the iphone, your android would of looked like a blackberrylol

The issue was stealing Apple's IP in the form of copying their trade dress etc.

And something a lot of folks don't understand is that Apple has no choice but to go after even the slightly instance of copying. Sure it might be extreme to try for an injunction over someone using a yellow flower for the icon for the photo collection but what if Apple ignored that use of a not obvious element feeling the same way and later someone pulled a more blatant instance of copying. Trademark/Trade Dress laws require that you protect or forfeit. Apple could lose on the basis that clearly they don't really care cause they didn't go after Samsung over that flower and the judge could agree.

If Google wasn't copying there would be no issue in Apple's eyes.

It's always amusing watching a bunch of ignorant people argue about something they're ignorant about.

All I asked for was a source showing that Android outperforms iOS. How is it common knowledge if you can't come up with a source??? It should be super easy right?

Ah, I see. Is it true that Apple filed for the patent in 2005 though?

That would be unreasonable. Either Apple would need to find a different way, or they would need to license it from Google. These things (inc. slide to unlock) shouldn't be patentable, it only hurts competition.

For the record, I don't agree with Apple not offering to license such and such to Android if that turns out to be true, although I don't believe it is at this point.

Android beat Apple to the high DPI screen by half a year (eg, the Motorola Droid, Nexus One), it implemented HSPA well over a year before Apple, it brought us dual core tablets and phones months before Apple.
Of course, because there's so many different manufacturers producing multiple products per year running Android. Although those phones you mentioned didn't have as high a PPI as the iPhone 4 did, no?

Chill out if your shiny new android phone can't have an unlock, and more Importantly... Why care?

But the difference is they dont sue everyone to hell.

Right now the current GB browser that only takes advantage of two cores, because as you can see the G-Tab is clearly beating the 4S and it has a Tegra2 SoC, while the GS2 has a much more powerful Exynos SoC, which easily is more powerful, atleast CPU wise, than the 4S.

I'm sorry, but no benchmarks yet exist that can fairly compare 2 different phones. The raw processing power of the androids among other things are proof.

Typed on my Incredible.
