haha I was about to correct him saying 5.5GB? My grandma's PC has more space than that..

If my order goes through I should have 128GB SSD and 7TB of HD space. Possibly up to 11TB of space. Is that over kill? I guess I am stacking up on some cheap 2TB green drives I found before they jack the price like all the other sites LOL.

We use hundreds of HDDs at my work and as soon as I heard the news of the flooding in Thailand I immediately bought a 4 month supply. I'm sure that a lot of PC manufacturers did the same. Overall increasing demand along with a questionable supply chain will raise prices considerably.
I bought our drives for $35 each for bulk pricing and now they are $75+. My guess is that the prices will get much worse than this in the next few months.

Well luckily my order went through and I got 2 WD 2TB greens for $79 each. I could've gotten them $69 each 2 weeks ago, but held off thinking another sale will happen in a week or two. And what do you know that current sale ends and the next day the flood news spreads and everyone has increased prices. So now I couldn't buy from the previous sale and there won't be any new sales either. Now the place I got the WD's from for $79 has shot it up to $138 each LOL

Now i just need to find a cheap 7200rpm 2TB drive before they increase even further if I can...

My guess honestly would be that SSD's will take over soon enough. By the time HD prices fall in 2-3 yrs SSD's will have taken the market at a cheaper price. I expect 1TB SSD's within 2 yrs.

Either way right now anyone needing storage is going is going to have to fork up a boat load. I suppose people will think twice before something is placed on their HD now.

but I agree with the above poster.. prices will get higher and higher as more people buy more drives.

this is freaking ridiculous. and they are right, it'll take about a year to even begin to see the prices drop. Oh well by that time ivy vag I mean bridge will come out and ssd prices would've fallen further.

side note, samsung 1tb f3 I'had bought for $49 is now $99. ahaha. I heard nidec is working on it "frantically" so we'll see since the chinese factorys can easily take up the slack except WDC but who cares. I'm not loyal to any hdd brand.

Or they could just be trying to cash in early
If supply runs dry, it's natural to increase prices. Just the way supply and demand works. There's nothing "price gouging" about it.

Sure, people who would have bought at $50 might not buy now at $100, but there are still people who are willing to pay $100.

Also, wonder what this will do to OEM pricing on computers. And SSDs... I bet this will push SSDs into suddenly becoming more popular in OEM machines.

This is really annoying because I actually need two more hard drives for video storage =/
