Run out of System Memory(8GB) with X/Trifire.. - Page 3

This is from wiki:

A page, memory page, or virtual page is a fixed-length contiguous block of virtual memory that is the smallest unit of data for the following:

memory allocation performed by the operating system for a program; and
transfer between main memory and any other auxiliary store, such as a hard disk drive.

Virtual memory allows a page that does not currently reside in main memory to be addressed and used. If a program tries to access a location in such a page, an exception called a page fault is generated. The hardware or operating system is notified and loads the required page from the auxiliary store automatically. A program addressing the memory has no knowledge of a page fault or a process following it. Thus a program can address more (virtual) RAM than physically exists in the computer.

I would hardly call it definitive, but reads as tho OS controls it entirely. Programs are able to query if a page file exists, but havent seen anything about specifying what memory is written to

Fair point. I will use other programs and then use the internal FPS in game to test. cheers

I also tested by deliberately running up a few programs, nothing real heavy, only task manager, afterburner, gpuz and getting around 68-71fps. After closing those programs and 1 or 2 others, my fps jumped to 73-75fps. Commit charge was around 50-60% so the difference was this small amount of memory being freed up from RAM. My page file is running on a OCZ SSD.

I think for myself it is now clear, more memory more memory more memory. There is a big fps increase when using RAM vs page file even on an SSD.
To be fair you proved that it does not force use of pagefile when not in a crossfire mode, nothing more.

It sounds like the game has coding issues as to what it will and will not do depending on certain criteria. Your best bet is to take this information to the BF3 forums technical department and let them handle it. They may find some problems or at the very least explain why this issue is happening.

Whippy, i have the exact same problem. Sometimes i'd get that my system ran out of memory when i run CF with Crysis 2...Nice to know someone else has this too.

BF3 appears to have a massive memory leak on some computers. DICE needs to fix the problem. BF3.exe is only using about 2GB of ram but system memory usage is excessive.

I can also now confirm that there is a massive difference in fps even when just freeing up a relatively small amount of actual RAM.

I simply ran up about 700mb worth of program in memory, im currently running 8gb RAM and 8GB page file, so there was tonnes of space. Enter bf3 and getting 25-26fps. Alt+tab, kill the programs(none of these being hardware monitors) and instantly fps jumps up to 69-71fps.

Riou, thats what im seeing too
