new memory 1066 running at 800

Hello!

Yesterday I purchased 8gb of Kingston Hyper X DDR2 1066 (5-5-5-15) for my computer. In my bios I cannot find an option to set my ram to 1066mhz it only shows 800mhz.

So.. I overclocked my ram to run stable at 1003mhz and I turned the voltage up to Kingstons recommended 2.2v. I have also manually set the timings to 5-5-5-15. I have confirm that everything is working using CPUz.

But how is it I can only run 1003mhz on my 1066mhz memory? How am I able to correct this so I can hopefully achieve 1100mhz or more. Any information would help.

Thanks

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Socket LGA775, 3GHz (Oc'd 3.76GHz), 1333 MHz FSB, 6MB L2 Cache, 45nm (418 bus, x8 multi)
MOTHER BOARD: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L Socket 775
MEMORY: Kingston HyperX DDR2 1066Mhz PC2-8500 8GB (4x2GB) 5-5-5-15 (1003Mhz)
POWER SUPPLY: Corsair CMPSU-450VX 450W ATX 12V 33A 24PIN ATX Power Supply Active PFC 120MM Fan

It should say 533mhz ( DDR2 - 2x 533mhz = 1066mhz ) on the memory tab in CPU-Z. If not, you may need a BIOS update.

run XMP and profile 1 in bios if running cpu at stock settings, or their equivalent. That's what works for Gigabyte mobos.

does your mobo support that speed setting?

do you need a bios update?

I have owned this system since 2007 and never updated bios because I heard the update for this board ran less stable. Although I cannot confirm this personally. The board brand new is rated to support 1066 memory which is why it is odd that there is no option regardless if the bios was updated.

In CPUz my memory reads 400mhz PC6400. What is XMP and profile 1? My CPU is not running at stock settings, it is also overclocked 760mhz.

Thanks for the input so far.

If there's not an option for 1066MHz in the BIOS, the only other way of getting there is by raising the Base Clock until you achieve that frequency.

Have you tried messing with GMCH Latch & System Memory Multiplier in BIOS?

If not, try some combinations and see which gives you the closest to 1066 Mhz.

Its tricky with 8gb of ram. 775 Gigabyte mobos have a certain dislike for 4 sticks.

You may need to go stock on your CPU, as trying to fine tune ram with a CPU OC introduces too many vaiables.

Once its done, you can see how it goes on your CPU OC.

I did this, it will not allow the system to run stable past 1003mhz because it believes the ram is pc6400.

The ram is set for 2.4 which brings me to 1003. 2.5 brings me to 1045 but will only run stable for an hour-ish.

Is it bad ram? both packages say 1066,

Probably not bad ram.

I know I have to under clock my ram, cause it wont boot or run stable above 1100 Mhz, no matter what I do.

How does it run at 1003 mhz?

Well, in bios when I OC my cpu to 3.76Ghz (stable on default voltage) if I leave the ram setting to Auto it adjusts the memory to 1003Mhz.

The computer believes my PC8500 is PC6400 and runs default at 800 but now I have OC'd to 1003Mhz stable. I can also adjust the same in increments. 2.0, 2.2, 2.4 etc. At 2.4 it runs 1003mhz and 2.5 1045mhz. I cannot tweek anything in between and there is no option that will allow me to run 1066Mhz.

I have been searching in my free time to find a solution to why this board which is rated to support 1066Mhz is only detecting 800Mhz and does not offer anyway to change it high or lower.
