Thinking out loud...

So, I don't have the money to build the Gaming rig I really want right now. I'm studying full time, and the only money I get in is from fixing people's P.C's(when I'm not paid with beer), and selling PC parts to people...

Having said that, I do need to do something about my PC, it's not up to standard, and since my 9600GT just took a dump, I figured I need to build something new.

I found a good price on A8 - 3850 an and ASUS F1A75 - V Evo as a combo deal. I was wondering, if I added 8GB of G. Skill Rip Jaws 1866 Ram, and a Radeon HD 6770, would this system be up to playing modern games on my 17'' Monitor, which sadly I also can't afford to replace at the moment?

If it is, that would be great, because I can put the whole lot together for just under R5k, where as to build a new "Gaming" rig on the i5 2500k right now would cost me around 15k....

Edit: The Radeon HD 6790 isn't much more, so I could go for that instead of the 6770?

Can you post your full existing system specs?

And if you include what you are going to pay for the enw items, and where from we can maybe advise a lot better!

Yes it should do VERY nicely. And the 6790 is closer to a 6850 performance wise (very very close), so it would be a SOLID choice for a budget graphics card.

Stick with 1600MHz RAM, its a bit cheaper and better for overclocking if you plan to do it the future.

Unless you plan to sell the rest of the existing rig, I dont' see the point in going for the combo.

Current System:
Gigabyte LGA 775 MOBO
Intel Pentium Dual Core E7500
4GB DDR 2 Ram(I think it's 800MHZ, not sure now)
9600GT ----> Dead...

It used to play the games I have already fairly well, but I haven't bought new ones for a while because it wasn't worth it. Since the GFX Card is dead, it's running on on board intel graphics, which is totally worthless.

Since the LGA 775 is no longer alive, it's makes sense just to pass this system off to my mom or something, for her recipes, or maybe my cousin, she just messes around on the net.

I figured the APU made sense just because I can get them in a bundle, and even if I don't take the bundle, they're very cheap anyway.

I'd be buying from one of our online retailers over here. I could either keep the case I have now, or upgrade it to something a little more flash, but still in the cheaper end of the cale....No HAF X's for me just yet I'm afraid....

So I was thinking:

Asus F1A75 - V Evo
A8 - 3850 APU
8GB G. Skill Sniper 1600MHZ Ram(On special at the moment)
Radeon HD 6790

Cost of Windows 7 I don't count really, because I can buy it on account at a reatailer that is owned by the clothing company that I have an account with...I wish they sold PC parts too....

The combo I was refering to was just the motherboard and cpu at a discount over buying them seperately...So why not go for it, no matter what I do with the old PC I need a new motherboard and CPU anyway?

I was also wondering, would the Coolermaster Hyper 212+ be ok for some over clocking on this CPU?

Should do just fine, although I'm not too sure how far those APU's clock. I've heard 3.6GHz is attainable, and that's about it...but that was back when they first came out.

It was just to make sure that we couldn't upgrade you further with your current rig, but by the looks, you're going the right route.

Thanks Boinz. I could buy a second hand C2Q, but they're still going for a bit of a price. At least with buying new stuff, you get a warranty, something I tend to need with electronics, since I often seem to buy stuff that is dead out of the box...

Thanks for all the replies, at least I can put together something that plays games with the money I have, lol!
