Um... PS3 YLOD fixed by time?

I'm so confused at the moment!

Here's a little background. Had a 40GB PS3 in which a buddy gave to me to fix. Tried fixing it but no luck. It always had the YLOD no matter how many times I reflowed it or reapplied the TIM. Finally I just gave up. My friend said he didn't want it and I could keep it to resell it for parts.

Well, for the whole year and a half I've had this thing I've been trying. Wanted to try it locally to get some cash and because there is lots on eBay. Never really received an offer for more then $20 for the whole thing!

So, I finally received an offer for $30. Decided that that's the best I'll get and it's better then the thing sitting in my closet and gathering dust/cat hair. The thing was absolutely COVERED. Especially the mobo. Riddled with cat hair and dust bunnies!

I put it all together (didn't have one case screw since I lost them all) and decided to plug it in and flip the switch one last time.

To my amazement... IT WORKED. Turned on and everything. However, the drive thought there was a disk in it.

I quickly pulled out my component cables and reset the AV settings. Worked perfectly. Fan was a little loud and it was blowing a lot of hot hair but it is a old fatty so... Reformatted the HDD and even sat through an entire software download/install so I could deactivate my account! WOOT!

Now, I emailed the guy again. Saying it works somehow and that there is a slight problem with the drive. I'm sure he could fix it and I believe the lense works because my buddy has never had a problem with it.

So... According to this... PS3s can be fixed by time? Lol? The hell is going on?!

P.S. Should I still charge him $30? Or should I increase it to $50 or $60? This guy is just gonna fix the drive in a heartbeat and resell it for ~$120. Is that wrong or should I get more for a working system with a simple fix?

You made a deal at $30 so I would stick to it, I wouldnt be happy about someone backing out of a deal at the last minute because something they thought was faulty proved to be working

I asked for $40 and he said $40 was good for both parties. If the blu ray drive fails then he has a back up motherboard, PSU, and blu ray lense.
