Crazy Windows 7 Resources

Thread Starter
so i switch my computer on and every time i find the following scenario. lots of resources being used in task manager which basically renders my computer useless because of how slow it becomes. I defragged, ran chkdsk, scans with kaspersky and malwarebytes, deleted temp folders, got rid of unecessary startup items but still my computer manages a way to use up nearly all of my 4gb. heres what happens....

first i am greeted with this.....

which doesnt even add up to anywhere near 4gb- this is futher illustarted on task managers graph.....

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

but after about 10 mins it calms down for some reason to this...

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

I have no idea why this happens and would really appreciate some help in solving this!

thanks

Next time you reboot, can you go into task manager and sort the process's by "Memory utilization"? Also click the "resource monitor" and you can get a much more detained listing of what is using what for memory.

Also it would be a good idea to click the "Start" button - orb-thinggy and type "services.msc" and sort the list by "Startup type" and see which ones strike you as odd, or out of place (and switch those to either disabled or manual).

Have you tried ProcessExplorer and ProcessMonitor (both from sysinternals.com)? They both show more details of the running processes, what they do and which resources they are consuming, over Task Manager. Also check event logs.

You can get shot of search indexer for starters if you dont use search (who does lol) go to your computer folder right click C: Properties and untick the indexing option, thats just a resourse hogger! Also go to admin services and stop all that AMD stuff Im sure you dont need it running I havent.....also go to control panel windows features and turn off remote differential compression thats another piece of junk.....turn off windows search too while you are there....

but the thing is the problem has only just started occurring, before that i had tonnes of things enabled and my pc was silky smooth (look at specs).

ive looked all through procmon and resoruce monitor and nothing even seems to be using over 130mb of resources (thats svchost). tbh the spikes in memory usage- i cannot explain them at all and i dont wanna result to reformatting because i just did one 3 months ago.

i duzzno w@t 2 doozz???

All this does it log events. How is this going to help the OP?

@OP

I'd say you definitely have some sort of malware going on. Better to dig deeper than just Kapersky/Malwarebytes. Try cleaning from another PC, rootkit detectors, anything to rid it.

ok tried something new again- i just closed the process explorer.exe and my memory usage goes from close to 4gb right down to 534MB! and the thing is task manager doesnt even report explorer.exe as a process which is using that much memory. So i have a feeling that this is the file which is the problem. now the question is how do i sort it out? tried scanning it but nothing happend. any ideas?

PS: i had to wipe my computer out previously because explorer.exe kept crashing on me before- does this mean my instlal disk is messed up or somethign? (just a thought)
