Is your Folding PC your daily-use PC? - Page 5

I used to sold on my main rig, now it and mt folding rig are both dedicated folding rigs and I just live off my lap top (which works great).

As you wish; still a work in progress, at a bit of a standstill atm, aluminum is rather difficult to work with when you don't have the proper tools.

First things first, get rid of that horrid stock paste. Slapped on some NTH1. That alone netted me around 15-20 degrees cooler.

Dead 20" Apple Cinema made a great chassis

325watt 5.25" bay PSU>fans pull 50watts/4amps each

The GPU averages around 5-5.8k ppd with the CPU getting around 2.5k.

My GPU is folding unless I'm gaming (~2hrs/week) or watching Netflix (~10/hrs a week) and my CPU is folding 24/7. Daily (and only) PC at the moment.

I just started after a 2+ year break though.

CPU is anywhere from 2-4.5K PPD and my GPU is 4.5-5.5K PPD according to HFM.NET.

Noob question: what is folding? It's a term I've seen thrown around a lot and I haven't found out what it is.
i use my sig rig for everything i leave my client running during everything. all i use is cpu to fold although i have to take the blck down from 147 to 145 to keep 100% stable

My dedicated folding machine isn't capable of bringing in much. Most of my points so far come from folding on the idle percentage of the gpu on my main rig. I turned hardware acceleration off in Firefox so I could still use the computer while it folds.

If the proc is 500C we have some issues

Look its how it works normally anyways. If your playing a game thats cpu intensive but only puts out 2 threads half the cpu will be generating most of the heat. But don't get it twisted they're all under the same heat spreader. Its not like the cores next to it wont absorb heat anyways.

Windows will actually alternate the threads core asignment. Go do a single core fold you will see activity on all 4 cores unless you change the affinity to 1. This should even out the temps just a little.

I wish I had an 8 core Sandy bridge lol I would so fold 24/7 on 4 cores.
