HWMonitor bug??

Thread Starter
I know I'm not the only one to experience this problem but I'm hoping someone knows of a solution or at least an explanation as to what is going on with HWMonitor.

I'm trying to reach 4.0Ghz on my 1100T inside a GA-990XA-UD2 (223x18). IBT at high stress settings passed with max core temp of 52c. Then I ran Prime95 in Blend mode...5 hours later, TMPIN0, 1 & 2 all showed a max 89c. In addition, max vCore was a remarkable 3.47V (see attached). My core temps never got above 49c and Prime95 was still running with no errors. Needless to say, I had the crap scared out of me, took a quick screen shot and shut everything down.

I'm not sure if this is related to my voltage and temp spikes but the multiplier, reported in CPU-Z, was automatically reduced from x18 to x16.5. I can't remember what my bios were after reboot...I was still in "freak-out" mode after seeing those temps and voltages. Is there a bug in HWMonitor? What would cause my multiplier to drop during a stress test, even though the stress test never failed or stopped?

Its probably a bug. AMD recommends that you use AMD Overdrive to monitor temps because of the formula they use or something like that.

http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloa.../overview.aspx

If the problem is the same I would look into RMAing the board because I am guessing its a bad sensor. 3.75v on your processor would not doubt kill the chip.

Yes, it is a bug with gigabyte boards and HWMonitor. I just went though it. I now use Open Hardware Monitor. I also had a problem with AMD overdrive. It showed my CPU 10c higher than all the other programs.

Phew...thanks for your reply Khaotic. I will download OHWM and let you know how it compares.

Does anyone have any guess as to my 2nd question: why does my multiplier drop from x18 to x16.5 in CPU-Z? It did it again today. I rebooted and this time checked my bios...still set at x18. Next time I'll open AOD and see what those readings are before rebooting.

Shot in the dark, do you have cool n quiet disabled in the BIOS? when your running OHWM it will have a CPU clock speed section, when running the stress test see if your CPU freq changes at all.

CnQ is disabled. I left C1E enabled and set my CPU temp threshhold in bios to 60c. I'm wondering if C1E is the culpurit I'm not familiar with this feature in bios other than what I've read on the 'net...
