I ran memtestx86 for something like 6 hours, it had completed 5 or 6 passes, and there were no errors. Also, for some reason, it's reading that there's 2 os's on the hdds. Both win7, and one doesn't work wen trying to boot to it, and the other is my normal pc I've always used. I haven't been blue screened for a few days now, and I'm wondering if perhaps a storage hdd i use could have been the culprit because it's the only component which hasn't been put back in. I shall be running a chkdsk on it when i can. Although, can a corrupt hdd used for storing tunes, films etc, cause the pc to go so insanely wrong?

checksum error usually cmos related.. dying battery, or ram problem..

do a quick memtest of the ram and see if you get any errors...
as for the os not showing up.. if the ram is dead or damaged, it can lead to corrupt OS or just corrupt boot mgr.

The latter is easy to fix though a series of dos commands.. just do a quick google of fix master boot record windows 7 dos.

EDIT: sorry didn't read anything past op lol.. if you're having two os show up it's because you installed on top of the previous os and boot mgr is messed up. tbh i would just do another clean install.. format the entire drive to raw or unallocated space and start fresh
good luck

yh, i think i'll probably just do that, as in do a fresh install, and see how that goes. I really don't want to be purchasing new ram, or a new mobo. Thank you.

Hi seb allwn,

The problem you are dfescribing sounds like there was an OS file corruptiuon on your primary disk. The reason your seeing two (0) Zero disks is that is the default for the boot.ini and boot sector. It sounds to me like you are running on your backup RAID 0 HDD. The reason I say this is that RAID ) mirrors the primary drive to give full redundancy where mission critical applications must keep running. You may want to check your primary RAID drive and make sure it is well.
In any case glad you got it working and hope all goes well with it.

Well, i've reformated, twice in fact. The pc doesn't bsod, instead it now freezes constantly. The reason I reformated the second time was because every time I tried to play cod (mw2, been playing for ages and has been running with no flaws) it would stop responding, and i would have to ctrl alt del and restart. No biggie i guess, but I also couldn't play a different game, grid. The same thing happened on that. Anyways, thinking it was just steam, or corrupt game files, I uninstalled everything and redownloaded steam and games, and was still in the same place. I updated gpu drivers, rolled back etc, didn't work. So, i thought i might as well just reformat again since all my files were backed up from the recent reformat.

And here I am now, i'm in the same position where my games still wont work (don't get me wrong, this isn't a major issue by any means at all, but it may give clues as to what's wrong) and the pc freezes constantly now, which is something I don't think this pc has done since i've had it. I can't ctrl alt del or anything. I have to hit the restart button, which drives me nuts when i'm trying to do work...

Something else this pc does is when i hit the on button, it fails to do pretty much anything. What i mean by this is, when i hit the on button (when the thing is off), everything turns on (as per usual). The fans blast out, as usual again, but then they remain on 100%. The fans just stay at that level and don't reduce as it normally should. Not only that, but i get nothing on the monitor, absolutely nothing, just a black screen, and I don't think it even gets a signal at all. I have to manually turn off the pc and wait a while before turning back on to get the thing to work. Sometimes i have to do this several times. I'm sorry i can't be more descriptive, but i have no idea what the problem might be.

I have also just taken out the soundcard, wondering if it has anything to do with the freezing. Since I've only just done that I'll have to get back to you on that. Any suggestions as to what might be at fault? It has to be a hardware thing in my opinion. I ran memtests for hours recently and got they didn't seem to have any issues. Testing whether the soundcard is at fault is as simple as pulling it out and seeing if the pc still doesn't work. Oh about that as well. I shoved the sound card in a different pci slot and it couldn't be found. I presume that slot is dead. In fact the card was originally in that slot a year or two ago and I had to switch slots because the card stopped working in that slot. Is there anyway of testing the gpu? I can't pull it out because there doesn't appear to be any onboard graphics on the mobo, or if there is, there's no way i can see of connecting it to the monitor. The psu is very new, also, the issues don't seem related. Could be the HDDs? I ran a chkdsk on my os hdds, not on my storage hdd. I'll run one on that when i can. What else should I be doing?

Thank you for your help!

sigh, looks like it was the soundcard. either that or the pci slot on the mobo has gone. Can't test out which because the other pci slot is dead. So, either have 2 out of 2 slots dead, or 1 dead slot and 1 dead card. Actually i'm pretty happy with that; I was looking on ebay for old 775 mobos (p5q's etc etc). Saved me (my dad) a fair wod of cash for now. Thank you!
