4.8 on 2500K max 60'C, safe? - Page 2

wow your house must be cold if ambient is 12! our house is between 18 - 21 degrees mostly. I get average temps of 58 degrees for 1.25v @ 4.5.

At the moment ambient of 20.5 and at 1.32v @ 4.8 im getting average of 66 degrees after an hour of Prime95.

I still think you can walk the volts down. Unless you got the runt of the SB litter you shouldn't need over 1.3v for 4.5.

Keep overclocking/downvolting!

Temps are fine you can hit up to 95 C before throttling. Personally i like to keep it below 75 C. Also use intel burn test on maximum because it will get your max temps for you and really heats up the PC. But the VCORE is sorta high. Intel says 1.52 Max. Personally these are 32 NM Chips and i like to keep it below 1.36 V core. Many people run 1.4+ 24/7. I would not push 1.42 and try to run C1E power saving if you idle alot because it will lower core and vcore when idle. Personaly i run mine @ 4.4 GHZ 24/7 because it makes me feel happy.

So much bad info here.
1. You know that P95 goes through different/increasing size threads right? After 30 min you're not doing even a small % of the overall test. Let it run. It's a wayyyy better test of stability than IBT, though IBT can generate a little higher top temp. If that's what you're wanting to find, great, but for long term stability a 12 hour prime95 is a way better idea. Not perfect, no test is.

2. 1.40 or 1.45 is NOT GONNA KILL OR DEGRADE a properly cooled CPU. The OP obviously has proper cooling if he's only hitting 60C under load, that's a great temp. Guys have been running their chips slightly over 1.5 for a year now, with no degradation.

So many people here on AN OVERCLOCKING SITE who are so scared of voltage. Be scared of temps way more than voltage, within specs which by the way are 1.52v on a 2500K. Think Intel didn't maybe build a little fudge factor when they published that number? They're not going to publish a number that's going to instantly destroy their product.

More bad info right above me. C1 doesn't lower vcore.

Thanks. I've seen some get down to 4.8Ghz with 1.3 and even 1.2. So I must not have such a good chip if it hangs at 1.38. :/

4.8 @ 1.40v is right at or on the low side of midrange. Not a golden chip, not a dog. I'm @ 1.416/1.424v and believe mine is midrange also. Again, nothing wrong with this.

Keep in mind too that all chips have a multi ceiling, where adding voltage really doesn't help it get to the next step - oh, it might post, but stability is difficult to achieve. That number is usually most commonly 48, with exceptions in both directions. I think there's a little more potential but most people don't play with their BCLK - upping it to 102 makes a 48 multi into a 4.9 speed - just make sure the subsystems have enough voltage (among them vtt), and as always that you have proper cooling.
