AMD FX 6100 Question

Thread Starter
Hey I was wondering if this AMD FX 6100 would be a noticeable upgrade from a Q9400. I mostly play games running @ 1680x1050 and also another thing would it run BF3 and Skyrim smoothly without any hiccups?

FX-6100 would be a side-grade if not downgrade at best.

That is an absolutely baseless statement.

http://www.guru3d.com/article/amd-fx-8150--8120-6100-and-4100-performance-review/1

The 6100 beats the i5 661 in almost every test, including equal performance the gaming tests. The 661 is considerably faster than the q9400.

HOWEVER, having said that. Unless you have already invested in a bulldozer compatible motherboard, and gaming is your only priority, a 2300/2400/2500 would be a better bet.

Totally not true.

Yes a someone already said, if you are starting from scratch, go with Intel for gaming. AMD is great for multi applications like photo shop and video editing.

If your budget was $190 to begin with... spend $20 more and get i5-2500k and OC it. Will last you a lot longer for gaming purpose.

then again if you got the mobo for AMD, then yes either that or the FX-6150.

If you are incline for the AMD 6100, i rather save $ and get the last gen six-cores as they are on par with the new BD 8 cores in many application testings. This one is BE too, it cost only $160 and you can still have lots of room to OC the chip as its unlocked.

This is actually true. It is well known that c2q is on pair with Phenom II x4 clock for clock, and PII x4 is faster then FX-6100 in gaming. Maybe AMD will fix it with drivers or something b/c 'dozer has more potential then it is showing, but looking at things as they are now q9400 is faster. Go with Sandy...

Can't say it's a good upgrade or it's a bad upgrade, the reviews are so mixed that it is just too difficult to judge what BD is like at least IMO.

Your CPU if OCed can handle even GTX580 on 1080p or lower. It is still quite capable CPU. Look http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/1134237-review-i3-550-4-3ghz-vs.html and you will see that little i5 of older gen matches i7-2600 in most games!!!

Buy new VGA if you want to game
