I think you don't understand--motherboards are not graphics-card brand dependent. You can use an AMD/ATI card just as well as an Nvidia card.

Motherboard chipset doesn't matter--unless you were planning to get 2 nvidia cards and SLI? Otherwise, you can use an AMD/ATI card, or an nvidia card, or some other brand card.

shouldn't he upgrade his video card first since he is gaming? depending how big your budget is you can get a used 460 for around $110, or a 6870 for around $180 or a 560 ti/6950 1gb for around $240.

If you can get it for free than yea, its for sure better than a 9800GTX+. Would it be a huge difference? No, I think you'd need to be looking at a 40nm part for that. Or throw the 4890 in for now and depending on if you decide you want more speed, you can look into the 28nm parts around Christmas.

Yes, a lot. In fact, if you had the 4890 for free, I wouldn't even consider spending money on a different gfx card.

IIRC, you can also keep the 9800GTX+ as a Dedicated PhysX card.
