Macbook Pro Windows Battery Life - Page 2

Thanks for the recommendations everyone. I'm actually not a big fan of vmware or parallels. I'm beginning to think battery life might not be a huge issue, considering I don't exactly do a lot of work in the field. However at $2000+, I'm kind of expecting a perfect laptop. It's a shame Apple can't release drivers to enable to integrated GPU in Windows. That's really the last major standing issue with boot camp.

Always compromises. Just like all other electronics purchases, I'm going to obsess over this in my sleep until I finally slide the credit card

I agree, I really like Microsoft Office 2011 on my Mac.

I wasn't aware it didn't have One Note, I only installed Excel, Powerpoint and Word.

I was probably being a bit hyperbolic. Office 2011 is actually pretty decent. I still prefer 2010 on Windows though. In my experience it's faster, and the copy and paste features, which are inexplicably missing from 2011, have massively streamlined my productivity. OneNote is also amazing for students like me. There are some alternatives like Evernote and Growly notes for mac, but I haven't been as impressed.

I personally think you can find a laptop with better hardware then a macbook pro for under $2000. But to one his own. I hope we have helped you decide on what you are going to do.

Lack of VBA is awful but still way better menus. A lot less vista ribbon-esque.

Can W7 be done as a clean install? I mean remove OS X entirely and only install windows. May clear up some issues, or create a ton more.

Not that I'm aware of. I don't think dual booting is much of an issue. rEFIt does make life easier. The only annoyance is that it takes a while to boot, but I hardly ever shut my computer down anyways.

don't know why you wouldn't use osx. seems pointless to get a mac if you're not going to use OSX.

I've been using my 2011 mbp 15" with the 6750 and in windows I can get close to 5 hours. But I really only use windows for games or when I'm going to be spending a lot of time in vsphere client.

I went the other way. I bought a windows notebook with specs that put Macbook pros to shame for less than half the price and run OSX as a secondary OS for programming.

The Lenovo y470 will basically run OSX without any hiccups if you replace the wireless card. I get about 5 hours in windows and 5.5 in OSX.

Now if apple would get off their hands and get trim command working natively, everything would be golden.

It does work correctly, you just need an SSD that they include with THEIR system. Or... Do a Google search for the workaround

Thanks for the info! I really don't think using a mac exclusively as a windows computer is all that absurd. I could understand if you have a pay a ton for the Windows OS, but I get it through my school for $10. Like I said, it's what I'm doing right now! Plus, in my opinion, the overall quality of the macbook pros is unmatched. So if you want the absolute best quality windows computer, then why not buy a MBP and run windows on it, assuming the boot camp drivers work well?

Lion, at least for me, adds absolutely no functionality over Windows. Instead of booting into Windows when I needed to do things like use One Note, why not just stay in the Windows environment completely?
