GFX Card - Recommend one plz

Hey all,

So with Christmas coming up, I can pretty much ask for what I want, and what I want most currently is a new GFX Card. I don't know too much about it so whatever info I leave out just lemme know.

What I want to be able to do:
Play Battlefield 3 (and The Old Republic) on Max settings. - I know ultra is for SLI setups and such, but I have friends that can run it on Max with single cards.

I currently have a 525 W Power Supply, so I'd prefer if possible to not have to ALSO ask for a new one, but if it's required for the card I can also get it.

Space is the only worrying issue for me, as I know a lot of cards are quite large in size. I've been told that most cards should fit fine, having a standard sized Case, etc. Mobo model I'm not sure of but I have attached a CPU-Z Screenshot of the Mainboard section with my Mobo information.

Also I only have one PCI Express slot, so I can't go SLI or Quad setup unfortunately. But I have been told that as long as you have one PCI E slot a dual slot card will fit as long as you have the required room.

One last thing... Even though it's a Christmas gift and I can "pretty" much have it be an expensive card, I would prefer if possible to keep it around 500 dollars MAX. 400 preferably but I can stretch it.

Ive been looking at the GTX 570 but it means I'd need a new PSU, which is fine with me since they're relatively cheap now.

You can get by with your PSU as long as it provides enough amps to the 12v rail. You might be OK with the 570 and that PSU. I would research it and find out.

Any ideas where to start with that research? I'm familiar with some things when it comes to PC's, but admittedly PSU and GPU's are not my strong point.

Also, I h ave pretty much decided I am going to get the 570 and most likely a new PSU just in case since they're pretty cheap now. (570 is only 250 CDN and the PSU's range from 50-100).

Two questions:

1. Are there any websites/can any of you determine if my Motherboard is compatible with a GTX 570? I have attached the CPUZ Screenie to help. I don't wanna get a new GPU and open the box only to discover it doesn't fit and not be able to return it (Lots of stores here won't accept anything once it's opened when it comes to CPU Parts)

2. Are all PSU's generally the same size? Do they all come in a generic design for the most part? I don't want to end up getting a PSU that's too large to fit into the PS Bay.

Thanks!

There seem to be a lot of SLI nightmares with BF3 (correct me if I'm wrong, but I've seen many posts here that say otherwise), so try to get the most powerful single card solution within your budget.

I would say a 570 or a 6970 2Gb. Depending on your brand preferences or price preference as both cards are close enough in performance to not really make a difference.

I'm most likely going with the 570 for 2 reasons:

1. The 6970 is a lot larger than the 570 and since it performs relatively similar I'll take my chances with the smaller card just in case of space becoming an issue.

2. Nvidia offers lifetime hardware warranties on some of the cards I'm looking at, while AMD is only 3 years.

Bump just to confirm: Will my mobo work with the 570? I posted a screenie of CPU-z, lemme know if it's not clear enough,e tc.

Q8300? Too big bottleneck with 570 GTX

If you can stretch your budget, I'd go with a 580 or a 6970. Spending that much, I couldn't see going with a 1gig card. A 1.5-2g card will give you more headroom for the future, and word on the street is BF3 is using more than a gig when it can.
