Yeah, but you don't think the GTX570 or 580 will use that much on high do you? Because it won't, BF3 uses more vram if it has it available but it doesn't really need it. Also in case you didn't notice recommended spec is 1GB VRAM. Some people with 3GB GTX580's see over 2GB VRAM usage. I think DICE said it takes about 1.3GB to max the game out, anything extra is just being used because it's there and not because it's needed, that also explains why you're using over the max required amount of VRAM on only high settings.

I'm running a 6970 with BF3 and I averaged low to mid 50s FPS with a minimum of 45 at one point with mostly everything maxed. AA was set to 2x and post processing was off.

Also the depth an details of explosions etc.....just more eye candy. Personally in multi player I would only be concerned with setting that give you 60 FPS min, so you don't have any lag or miss some heading for you!

During campaign mode, yes some of us play campaigns, I'm cranking it as high as my 580 will take me with at least 40 FPS to still be playable. I'm betting ultra. Then a second run in 3D vision which I'll turn down a notch.

Can't wait. I got it today in the mail from Newegg. Couldn't pass up the deal for $48 and no tax! I'm at work ATM so I'm dying to go home and spark it up. smile.gif

So which card would be more future proof... The 6970 or GTX 570? Both may perform well with BF3 at the moment but which will take the lead when newer games come out and is most likely to perform better then?

Asking cause I'm getting a new GFX Card... Was gonna get the GTX 570 but if the 6970 will perform better in the future I'll definitely grab that one..?

Thats not really a question that can be answered with fact. Who knows what the future will bring. In my opinion for longevity then higher Vram levels are the way to go. Having said that it seems that the cards are very similar and alot will depend on drivers.

To actually give you an answer, if I was to buy now I'd go the 6970 it should last you for a year or two at least.

Well performance level between 570 vs 6970 can vary depending on games. Sometimes on par, sometimes a bit under or over, and as we've seen rare occasion coming close within range of a 580.

However though on a single monitor though extra VRAM isn't as important the 6970 2GB will take you further IF games start to utilize more even for a single monitor.

Between 570 1.2GB vs 6970 2.0GB go with 6970 2.0GB to give yourself the extra VRAM and longevity. thumb.gif If it's between 570 2.5GB vs 6970 2.0GB go with 570 2.5GB.

Good choice. In BF3, and alot of other games, the 6970 is head-to-head with the 580 with latest drivers.

But the 6970 cost less, and have more VRAM. cool.gif
