The Official Ultimate Android App List [Updated Weekly!] - Page 12

Okay well, I installed Smart Keyboard Pro and..I really like it. Here's the thing though..

Smart Keyboard Pro supports more languages than I've ever seen on any other keyboard, period.

SmartKeyboard USES keyboar skins from Better Keyboard. Very nice.

Smart Keyboard has SO MANY FRIKEN OPTIONS that I got lost in the options menus, tbh.

Here's why I wouldn't choose it over BetterKeyboard pro though: BKP offers complete skinning for their keyboard. What I mean by this is that even the predictive text area is skinned, whereas the predictive skin area is not skinned on Smart Keyboard Pro. If you're heavy on everything being skinned appropriately, then you'll be a little disappointed with Smart Keyboard's lack of skinning on the predictive text area.

As far as I can tell the smiley face button is MIA on Smart Keyboard Pro, BUT it is very likely that it is in the options to have this feature turned on, so I wouldn't exactly hold that against it.

I haven't gone completely through EVERY single option SKP has, but I don't think I saw a custom font/text color option like BKP had. That's something else that would be a + in favor of BKP. If it does have it, then that's just another reason to get SKP

Here's the biggest reason why I would recommend SKP. - It's free on trial version.

I personally went back to Swype though as I'm really fond of swyping now instead of typing, even if I may type faster with BKP or something. I'm not actually sure how fast my typing is though compared to swype and a typical softkeyboard.

I'll add Air Droid to Misc section.

I tested a game called "Gu Morning" - I don't think it's worth adding to the list. First of all, if you're on a qHD screen, it doesn't even fill up the entire screen. It's a terrible iphone port. I hate it. Secondly, the game is little dependent on what blocks you get first. If you start out with a dumb block or item, you pretty much lost. The idea of the game is to fill gaps using tetris like blocks so a duck can get over to his duck sergeant. 2/5 stars from me. Would have been better if the game fit my screen. That would have given it a 3/5 at least.

Still testing What'sFishHD. I'm not sure I like it at all, but I'm also not sure if I just suck at this game. Apparently you're supposed to gun down some fish and get points, the smaller the fish, the easier to kill, but the less points you get. You start off with some crappy slow shooting cannon. The game has pretty decent music. I think as you progress in levels the guns get better and the game may get more fun, but on level one, idk. I'll let you all test it as well and let me know what you think about this game. For now it will remain off the list, but up in the air.

Thanks for your time and a review, Simca. I never use predictive text so I never have skin issues. Didn't enable smiley button either. Swype feature is cool but it feels bit too slow for me and works same fassion as preddictive text where you have to look at choose which words it offers and chose the righ one. Takes ages imho. I like to keep things clean and simple despite this keyboard having so many features.

What striked me most is responsiveness to key presses. Was my main point of choice.

I will have a look into the one you recommend (BKP) and see if I like it smile.gif Cheers!

Simca, got a couple of questions for you regarding MIUI since you say you use it mostly.

Have you tried doing backups and restores of this ROM? Have you had md5 checksum errors? Which phone do you have?

I've got Samsung Galaxy SII and apparently since the official supported Clockworkmod for it is 4.0.1.5, while MIUI installs 5.0.2.7 and this causes this md5 error for me each time. So basically I can install MIUI but I can never backup or restore it for that reason.

I don't save backups on my SD card. That takes a lot of space and I'm only using an 8GB SD card. I'm using all of it for apps and am already down to 2GB or so.

I've used Titanium backup without a problem. I'm using an HTC Sensation and Clockwork Mod 5. something I believe. Not sure I would have a problem restoring if I decided to, but why would you restore it? Because you like to switch from CM7 to MIUI? I'd say just play with CM7 for a week then play with MIUI for a week, don't flop back and forth. Then choose whatever you enjoy best.

Yeh, Titanium Backup works fine for me too. It's the Clockworkmod that screws me. I never tried any other ROMs, I just once wanted to go back to stock ROM to sync my notes and then back to MIUI. I could restore stock with no problem but then restoring MIUI gave me md5 checksum problem. But I am preparing files so that I could switch to MIUI long term without restoring. Although I will prolly switch ICS when it comes smile.gif

I actually just grabbed SwiftkeyX on sale (10 cents right now!) and it's pretty good, but my interest in Smart Keyboard Pro is definitely growing.  Does it support Japanese character input, would anyone know?

Also, happy to report that I finally found a way for my Motorola Milestone (Droid) and it was flashed to MIUI 1.12.2 (amazing by the way, though I replaced its default launcher app) with the latest issue of Androidini OpenRecovery (I could never get ClockworkMod working for the Milestone unfortunately)..  Everything works thumb.gif

Now, time for an app download/search fest...

Simca: I would like to see the "SD Speed Increase" (which increases SD card cache size, therefore improving access read/write) as well as the ASTRO File Manager on this list thumb.gif

I won't put Astro File Manager because I believe the replacement I put is better and more appealing visually.

Does that Speed up SD app require a reformat?

i did some searching on that app and it seems like some people think it may ware the memory down faster. what it dose is change the block size that is written. so in turn writing in 128kb blocks it will wright to what you set it to, say 2048kb. so in turn if you have something that uses less space it still writing in other spots, hence waring the card out faster. not only that you may loose more space for little files that are under the set size.

Does not require any reformat.

Go to page 2 of the same thread and find this post by the creator:

Okay to somewhat answer this persons posts. and to inform unawares.

1st read the research post referenced in the OP.

the block size is the same, it only affects how it reads and not how it writes. therefore additional "wear" would be neglible at the most.

since its read ahead, its not going to have much of an effect on random/small files.

also its not an internal android setting. judging by the location of the setting its actually a kernel setting.

please feel free to correct me if im wrong, and provide a legit link i can learn off of.
