Fallout 3 - What The Fudge Is This?

*Sigh*

Just when i think i've solved one problem, gamebryo throws another my way. It's so sad it's almost funny.

I'm getting graphical anomalies, shadows seem to "flicker" (first pic) and some metro stations have completely missing textures/walls. I can literally fall off the map by walking into them.

Reinstalling didn't help and i swear this problem has only appeared since updating to the latest AMD drivers:

anyone know what this is all about?

Well i was getting this on stock fallout 3 - desperate for a fix i then installed NMC's texture pack, the 2gb enabler (2gb+ flag adress aware on exe) then ENB/Fellout.

I tried each one by one, no fix. I now run all of them at once; still doesn't solve it.

I could, but i'd rather not if possible. To be honest i don't feel Gamebryo is worth the effort when everything else runs fine. I'm tired of altering the ini, running in compatability mode, disabling aero...etc, etc.

New Vegas gives me similar problems. I love the games, but i can't stand the instability/bugs, it literally drives me mad.

Is it safe to assume none of you guys have encountered this problem yourselves? I've been going through the Nexus and apparently the flickering shadows is an engine problem (discovered on the "Streetlight" mod comment forum)

Revert.
Restore to a previous save point or revert your drivers.
Check temps, i guess.

I think its just fallout 3. I had the same problems on my 9600gt. I haven't played it on my new card yet but I doubt its changed.

yeah, thats what i thought.

I'm so sick of this game. I've got such a love/hate relationship with it, lmao.

Completely the same story with New Vegas, except Crashes arn't as frequent but it compensates with more bugs. The most annoying has got to be NPC's spawning in the ground or running half way through it.

What an absolute disaster, i can't believe they release these games in this condition. They're so awkwardly buggy it's almost funny.

Is this a steam version? Maybe verifying the game cache will help. Although this does seem like a driver issue or a mod issue most likely. But seeing as how you've eliminated the mod problem I would: Disable all addons, delete video card drivers and download an older/newer one, verify game cache, cry in corner, restart PC, and report back.

Are you using the large version of the NMC pack. I had to get some SSDs to run the large version for New Vegas, I could hear my hard drive spinning like crazy when playing and sometimes textures would fail to load. Try using a smaller texture pack if your not already.

Naw this copy of fallout 3 is a hard copy. No steam ties at all. (GOTY edition, recently purchased as i binned my previous copy due to all the bugs)

I'm going to reinstall the game (again) and some older gpu drivers, if this doesn't solve it, i'm going to go back to my corner.

Another thing that annoys me is the inconsistency of these bugs. It's only certain metro stations that suffer with these missing textures. all "Internal" cells almost always have the shadow bugs. External cells work perfectly (such as the wasteland)

I've spent so long troubleshooting these games that when i do finally get around to playing them properly again, it'll just be a massive disappointment.
