You're at 4.8, I'm at 4.6; a quick check and reapplication can hurt. At the least it'll let you see how your last application of TIM spread out.

The chip I'm using/testing now was previously a 4.9 @ 1.39v when I was using a Megahalem. I want to see what it does with a Silver Arrow fitted with three fans. If this run goes well for a few more hours, I'm setting it to 4.9 with 1.39v for an overnight run to see what happens.

Those temps look better for that clock speed. A third fan would drop the temps ~2-3c at most so I think the OP should re-seat. Too much TIM perhaps

"Too much TIM perhaps"

I've been there, recently. Over the last few months I've built several PC's, AMD and Intel, and have taken the cooler off several times; I forgot how little TIM you really need to get good coverage.

"I meant "can't hurt" in my message above, not "can hurt"; edit has been applied!

it took a good while for me to attach it in the first place so trying to avoid having to re do it ha ha
Took 2 people as I could not get the 2 screws in without moving the SA too much.

if it passes Prime after 12 hours without hitting 75+ then I will leave it until I decide to try 5ghz.

So far 2 people think temps are fine and I should leave it and one person thinks I need resit.

your not running a 2500k and not running Prime.
No one does a OC stress test with Aida. Its done with IBT or Prime95.
I'm not interested in running Prime for hours and hours. I don't see the point. I'm never gonna be at full load for 24 hours ever. And the idea was not so much of a stress test but to check temps under load which Aida does well. But to prove a point, I did run Prime and got the same temps.

I'd bet pennies to peanuts you used too much TIM. Your temps are too high IMO

Yes I may have put too much tim.
I will see my temps after 12 hours and decide.
68 -69 at 4.8ghz is well within safe ranges and as Prime streses it much more then games etc I should not see temps higher then 60 for daily use.

Just wanted to see the general thoughts on here and I have taken onboard your advice.

For that overclock, I would say those temps are fine

Compare with other SA user's in the stable thread

In this post I used too much and when I reapplied it my temps dropped 5c

I stopped Prime, after 4 hours average temps were 69 - 70 degrees and then all of a sudden it went to 78 degrees and stayed there. Two of the cores were at 80. I think my cooler aint sat in right as it should not jump that much all of a sudden.

Try remounting it again if you want. During the removal process take pictures of both the CPU and the bottom of the heatsink before you remove the existing TIM and post it here. That should give us some indication on whether or not it was a good mount.
