AMD computer running slow... Need advice!

Hello Overclockers. I'm having a bit of a problem with my new build. It seems to run slow at times. Well, atleast slower then my old Athlon II X2 Regor 250. I can play BF3 fine on HIGH graphics but when opening programs and loading things some times it is slow.

Here's what I got.

Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128521

Memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820233180

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103808

GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814125363

PSU: 420 Watts

I'm running on Vista now vs. XP before.

Might I ask why you're running Vista instead of Windows 7?

Well I did a defrag on my laptop and it turned it into a way better machine from all those days without a defrag. I know people will say otherwise but it helped me.

overclocking helps of course because you are boosting speeds beyond factory settings but that chip and ram and graphics card should NOT be lagging when opening programs. how many ram sticks do you have? make sure it is 1, 2 or 4 sticks not 3 (dual channel) ummm download cpuz and tell me what speed your ram is running at. sometimes it doesnt register right and maybe its clocked way down or timings are off. also you can download cinebench to get an idea where your cpu stands as far as performance.

Well yeah I guess it's just running slower at times...ex, not running flawlessly. My boot up wont be as fast as before either. Just not what I expected from the Phenom series... I can always OC though when I get my aftermarket fan in place.

yea he could try defragging but stated that it is a new build. unless he installed a ton of programs and uninstalled and reinstalled he should be ok there. but yes a fragmented computer could cause that problem. IMO Vista is garbage but 2each their own
