Trust us, the game will use much more than 2 or even 4 gigs if it has it to use. I know the numbers I see while playing. Numbers don't lie and I know what I am seeing and experiencing.
I just see a bunch of hear-say. Call me skeptical but I would like to see more hard data. If people take your advice to spend more money on memory, they should have a right to see more data to substantiate your claims.

Is BF3 a 32-bit or 64-bit executable?

I never said people need to buy more ram. I just stated my experience and asked if this was normal. Many others have experienced the same thing so i would be willing to bet there is merit to it. I will post pics as soon as i can. Are we certain the game doesnt dump some info from memory when you alt+tab out? I know when I do this from games my video card ram dumps a lot. am running 64 bit OS but I am not sure what BF3 is.

Edit: you need to look up the legal definition of hearsay. It's not hearsay if that person said it and it's their experience.....and yes before you criticize me, I have graduated law school and am sitting for the bar in feb.

Okay hearsay is not the right word. How about not enough data?

For the possible memory drop on Alt + Tab, there is a "Used Physical Memory" graph you can monitor in process viewer to see any drop.

A 32-bit app will have *32 at the end of the process in Task Manager. A 64-bit app will not have *32.

Congratulations on graduating law school.

My game is playing just fine with 4gb of ram. I get slight frame rate drop the first time I load up the map, and then smooth 57-80 fps on ultra.

it is enough if all you do on the PC is strictly gaming, but for those of us who do things other than that as well as game, yeah, I wouldn't go with less than 8GB these days

I popped in a stick of ram I had laying around. To bring my system to 6GB, now I can alt tab with no problems.

to all those saying 4gb is not enough i have to disagree... during bf3 i was getting memory private around 1.8-2m and physical memory usage NEVER went over 79% just fyi. My 4 gigs play just fine im able to alt tab no problems my load times are fast enough to get a jet .

Here is another BF3 memory thread: http://www.overclock.net/nvidia/1151...-lolwut-2.html

Private memory for BF3 was only at just about 2GB. This game likely has some major memory leak issues. There seems to be some bugs in the game's memory management. There is no reason for a 2GB memory game and one tab in Chrome to be using over 5GB of memory. Unstable software imho.

This was what I was about to suggest.

Almost every game released seems to have a memory leak bug. But is usually patched fairly quickly.
