BF3: 4gb system ram not REALLY enough - Page 8

I also haven't had any issues with just having 4GB RAM. I'm pretty sure the mem leak issue in BF3 was mentioned on the bugs list in the last day or so on battlelog forums and is being worked on.

Not sure why you guys are surprised. When BF2 came out, 1GB was the standard until a hardware site found out it uses almot 2GB by itself. BF2 was a system killer. This wasn't nearly as bad lol.

...except 4gb is still sufficient provided that you haven't disabled page file, in my experience.

I went through all of the single player and 8-10 hours of multiplayer and never had an issue with my memory. No fps dips to speak of.

So should I invest in more RAM or not? Is there a difference in running 2x 4GB kits vs 1x 8GB kit?

How about some consistent memory usage reporting? People saying it uses up to 5GB on their system, others say it uses less than 2GB on theirs - no mention of settings or whether they are running 32 bit or 64 bit, and for the most part, no screenshots.

I use ~5.6GB of ram when playing BF3 with nothing other than essentials open.

I was playing Multiplayer last night and had no problems with only 4GB (2x2GB) on High Settings. (1360x768)

Windows Resource Manager showed that just under 3GB was in use and about 1Gig in Standby. although It said that there was no free memory I had no issues.

If the question is 2x 4 GB or 1x 8 GB, go with the 2x 4 GB sticks. And It never hurts to have a little extra RAM. More RAM means your pagefile will be used less and since most people's pagefiles are on their HDD's, this can help performance and if your pagefile is on an SSD, it will help reduce wear on your SSD.

BF3 only uses 2GB by itself. Even if Windows uses 1GB of ram for background processes, that is only 3GB of ram used.

The only explanation is that BF3 currently has a memory leak on certain configs. That thread I linked to a few posts above has Balla's screenshots. Evidence points towards a memory leak.
