The next big thing?

Hello there. I tried to find an answer to this online and haven't come up with anything and am hoping someone here can help!

Here's my question, I am in the market to buy a new Nvidia card but I'm curious if something new is about to be released. I can't seem to find when the next Nvidia cards are due out and if anyone has a ballpark estimate, or a link, I'd be very thankful.

My ballpark estimate for Kepler (6xx series) would be late January/early February next year - hopefully sooner, but I doubt it.

research the kepler series of nvidia cards, they should be available to consumers in the first half of 2012 (which will probably get pushed back as that grows nearer)

Thanks very much, both of you. I just needed a name, I couldn't even find that, and now I've got Kepler to work with.

I've got a 460 GTX and was planning on upgrading, but maybe I'll just wait to see what these Kepler's have to offer. I wanted to play Skyrim at max settings, but I suppose I should still be able to run it well enough.

Yeah. No need to upgrade to a 560/70/80. Your 460 should serve you for a while, but don't be expecting to play BF3 at uber-high detail or something like that.

Thanks, ArchLinux.

I'm not a big BF fan anyway.

How do you think I'll run Skyrim? I've also got an i7 920 and a 12 gig of ram to go with the 460. Almost embarrassed to write that seeing the rigs you guys have!

I dont think anyone knows what skyrim will need to run smoothly. They released the requirements but I dont think they mention at what resolution.

Hey thanks, Tino.

I guess as long as I can run it at say medium/some high I'll be happy. I just hope these Kepler's hit soon.

Anyone tell me in general what kind of performance boost I'd get by adding another 460? Would I be able to turn up anti-aliasing? I'm often confused by what the real advantages are. I assumed a real plus would be getting twice the memory, but now from what I understand, your memory doesn't double...?

1gb 460's in sli are on par or a bit faster than a 580. They're great performers.

Memory doesn't combine in sli. So, 2 1gb cards will have 1gb of vram available.

Droogie, thanks man. Looks like I can pull the trigger on another 460 to hold me over until the Kep's hit. Then again, I'm not sure my case will actually hold two cards! Sure, theres another slot there, but good luck getting another one in. Guess I'll have to try and jam it in.
