Help with choosing a cpu - Page 2

i2500k-$180 (microcenter)
6870-$150 (after MIR)
Corsair TX-650-$80 (after MIR)
1155 z68 mobo-$140~ (intel guys can step up there)
8gb(2x4gb)1600mhz ram-$45
1Tb HD-$100
DVDRW-$20
Case of your choice-$60-90
That should land you between $750-800

Now, if your not going to be overclocking your CPU. Id swap out the 2500k for a 2400, and use the extra money to swap the 6870 with a 6950. That will help gaming, but hurt everything else.

So would a 4100 at 4.2 Ghz beat a 955 at stock while consuming less power aswell?

If you want a nice budget board around $150 the p67 extreme4 boards are great great for the money.

as hatchet mentioned a i5 2400 + hd6950 is going to be better than a 2500k and hd6870

if you can squeeze a hd6950, or gtx 560ti into your budget you'll be happy you did.
