Rig for BF3, 1st time builder

Thread Starter
Hey, everyone! I'm looking to build a new comp for BF3, SW:TOR, and Diablo 3. I've never built a computer before but it looks easy enough. I browsed newegg and tigerdirect for a while and picked out what I thought would make close to the best rig as I can get for my budget, ~$1500. Looking for any suggestions you all can give me. I don't know too much about brand quality either.

Here's the rig as it currently stands (feel free to tear it apart) :

Mobo - GIGABYTE GA-Z68A-D3H-B3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128502

CPU - Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80623I52500K
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115072
I'm told this is as good as the i7-2600K for gaming

GFX - MSI N580GTX Lightning Xtreme Edition GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi) 3072MB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127589

Hard Drive - Western Digital Caviar Black WD1501FASS 1.5TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136592
Considering getting a SSD for my OS and a few selected programs like games. Does it really help all that much once I'm in game though is my real question.

Power Supply - Corsair TX850W 850W Power Supply
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...2&sku=C13-2508
Will this be enough if I upgrade to a second GTX 580 down the line?

RAM - Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B Vengeance Desktop Memory Kit
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...9&sku=C13-5720
RAM has me perplexed, is there any real winner out there?

Case - Cooler Master RC-932-KKN5-GP HAF 932 Full Tower Case
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&sku=C283-1187
Lots of room sounded good to me

CPU Cooler - CORSAIR H80 (CWCH80) High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835181016
Good cooling and quiet, seems like a winner

Optical Drive LITE-ON DVD Burner - Bulk 24X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 12X DVD+R DL 24X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM Black SATA Model iHAS124-04 - OEM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106289

OS - Windows 7 64bit, any real reason to go with pro over home?

The reasoning for the 580 card over CrossFireX 6950's (which I had first thought of) is that when the price for the GTX 580 goes down then I can get another and be good for a while longer as opposed to having to get a newer more expensive card and keep close to the same performance. Sound reasoning? All help appreciated!

looks good

try to get a SSD in there, even if it's a 64gb as a boot drive

they make a massive difference in system responsiveness.

all looks good. going with the GTX580 is a good idea, that will keep you going for a while and i wouldnt really recommend going for Crossfire or sli for a beginner since there can be some issues involved that require playing around with bios settings and stuff also for BF3 a Nvidia card will make use of the games PhysX were a AMD card would not.

there is no real reason for going the pro over the home edition but if you can get the pro or even the ultimate i would grab it.

also i know its a fair bit more in cost but i would go for this board over a gigabyte board. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813188097

also welcome to OCN
