New build on the horizon

Thread Starter
So it's been a while since I sold my sig rig, 6~ months, I bought a nice mountain bike and a laptop with the money and life was great, i'd cut right back on the gaming and enjoyed being outdoors. But if i'm totally honest I miss my rig like you wouldn't believe...my laptop just fails to run bf3 with a playable fps (10-20fps on low...***).

Because i've been out of the loop for a while I don't really know what's hot and what's not. Can somebody give a brief explanation as to what is a good setup to look at, or what is coming out in the near future Q1/Q2 2012 that would be worth waiting for?

I'm not gonna be spending £2500 like I did on my previous rig as for what I used it for it was a big waste of money.

What will I be using the rig for you ask?

Gaming
'mild' video editting (not often but occasionally)

That's pretty much it.

How much money would you suggest i throw at it? Would £1000 get me a pc good enough to max out the majority of games with a solid 60 fps? (I need everything, monitor and all)

I'll probably go watercooling again, so I need to take that into account for the cost.

I could probably find out all the info myself if i was to sit browsing the net and doing some research, but it would be nice to know where to start looking before i do that.

Thanks in advance.

For a custom loop I don't think you could pull £1000. I think you could build a rig that would max everything or come damn close @1080p including monitor and all, for £1000. Then add a couple hundred more for watercooling.

Sorry i should have mentioned in my OP, I have a few parts remaining from my last loop.

I still have the EK Nickel cpu waterblock and my multioption 150 res, obviously the pump and the rad are still expensive additions but I can probably stretch a little extra to afford those.

I see people running with the 6000 series AMD and 500 series Nvidia, is the 7000 series or the 600 being released any time in the next 6 months? or would it be a safe buy to pick up one of the older cards for the time being? maybe go crossfire or SLI in the future.

I'm pretty sure I heard that the amd 7xxx series is supposed to come out by the end of this year, if not early next year.

And if you're willing to wait a bit I would suggest waiting for ivy bridge early next year as well, especially if you're on a budget

Oh ok. Also keep in mind dem gpu blocks are spendy spendy

I would definitely recommend waiting. My guess would be that sometime between December-February the next gen of gpus will be out and about. Worth the wait
