Thoughts on a Motorola Photon 4G Sprint

Thread Starter
I've read some good reviews on the Motorola Photon 4G at different Android forum sites. Any thoughts or experiences with this phone will be appreciated.

I was leaning towards the SGII but I've read about the L.O.S. issues and how Samsung doesn't support their phones with timely updates/fixes. But I've read Motorola does keep the Photon updated with fixes frequently and could get Ice Cream Sammich.

I gotta say though the SGII is hands down winner as far as the flyweight of the phone. It's so feather weight light! Though I wasn't too thrilled with the huge screen. I'm due for a upgrade on Sprint that has to be done by the end of the year. I can get a new ph from mid November. Any comments will be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I'm not a Motorola fan myself. They are the worst phones usually in regards to rooting, and the screen resolution on the Photon itself was rather low if I remember right.

I'd personally go with any SGSII, Evo 3D, Evo Design, Nexus S, Evo or Evo Shift in no particular order before the Photon.

But that's just me

Well, according to the recent news post about fragmentation of devices that run android, motorola is actually not that great with updating. Weird. If you ARE looking to root/do roms then the SGII will be a nice choice. That thing is a favorite with the developer community. But then again, so are many motorolas.

I guess what it comes down to is you shouldnt be worried about what the actual company releases in terms of updates unless you intend to leave the thing bone stock.

For me this phone sucked. The internal memory is tiny and many apps can't be moved to the SD.

I like the build quality. and the size was more manageable than the epic touch.

But after a short amount of time... lag city. The 8M camera is in my opinion horrible.

I haven't had LOS issues often with the epic touch. But anytime you dont get or send texts, etc when you think you should be, sucks.

IIRC, once you root there is no way of going back to stock. And root may mean more LOS.

It does matter a lot. Galaxy S users are stranded on unstable kernels if they want gingerbread. POS "leaked" kernels are not the same if they force close all the time.

Either get the SGS II if you want android or the iPhone 4S if you want GSM compatibility.

I had an OG Epic and, yes, Samsung support does suck, so I ended up getting an iPhone.

Hardware-wise, the Photon is inferior to both the SGS II and the iP4S. No real reason to get it.The software on it sucks too.

Also, make sure to use an Epic Touch before buying it. The screen/phone is just absolutely enormous.
