I'm already running in push/pull with the stock blademaster and a second 53 CFM Deepcool Windblade fan. Picking up a 110 CFM Everflow fan once stocks are available in a nearby shop.

I don't have $70 (that's the equivalent of the cost of an H50 here) to spare just to get a cooler.

ahhhh ok. well look around here always Hxx for sale here. biggrin.gif as well i paid $17.88 shipped for 2 scythe slipstreams from newegg just 3 days ago. ever thought of looking there?

I live in the Philippines so it's quite impossible to purchase some of the items for sale here smile.gif

So, given my predicament, do you guys think that lapping is the only solution? smile.gif

your high ambient temps, coupled with that cpu cooler and the tendancy of these processors to run hot means your temps are probably right.

Try putting a better cooler on, like corsair h80 or noctua d14

I guess I just can't help but envy the high overclocks that you guys in cooler countries get frown.gif

I'm trying 3.6 GHz at 1.375V right now. Temps shoot all the way up to 85 degrees, and that's when my computer automatically shuts down. I doubt it's a BIOS setting as I get no blue screen. I'm thinking it's more of the CPU keeping itself safe by shutting down instead of burning up.

I can't really afford a better cooler, as the $30 tag of the Hyper 212+ is the most I can spend.

The next cheapest option for me is to lap, and I'm seriously considering it, but if there're other ways to reach 3.6 GHz under 80 degrees in IBT without a new cooler, please let me know smile.gif

Well you can all ways buy some new thermal paste you can get artic silver 5 on amazone for $5. I do not think you should lap your CPU, if you cannot afford a new cooler then you cannot afford a new CPU. Save some money, when you have enough sell your old heatsink and buy a new one. For right now just leave it at 3.3. All so keep in mind that stress test, stress the **** out of your CPU causing more heat then a game would. Test it with the heaviest game you play. It will not get as hot.
Opening up your case might help as well.

I'm using Shin Etsu G751 right now, and according to this review, it performs better than an AS5:
http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=150&Itemid=62&limit=1&limitstart=12

Right now, I'm running stably at 3.4 GHz with 1.2375V (LLC enabled).

IBT temps reach 72 degrees, Prime95 reaches 66 degrees. I know that running stress tests make my CPU hotter than in normal use. However, I don't feel comfortable knowing that at 3.6 GHz, my CPU would shut off under IBT.

I've tried lapping my Pentium D 820 for practice, and my temps fell by 6 degrees. Thinking of whether I'll do the same with the Q6600.

thats the only thing i havent done to my CPU yet. but unfortunately you dont have many options. :\ what is your case fan situation like? are you willing to mod your case? more fans could help possibly? better air flow across the heatsink means cooler temps to my knowledge. so is it possible to cut a hole in the side cover and mount a 120mm or 140mm fan?

could you possible link or give us a shot of your "generic" case?

I have a 120 mm 53 CFM fan as my intake fan in front, a 92 mm 87 CFM as exhaust in the rear, and a 120 mm fan at the bottom part of my side panel as intake blowing air directly to my GTX 460.

I'm thinking of adding a second intake fan in front by removing 2 of the 5.25" bay covers and covering it with garden mesh instead.

I can't put another side panel fan directly above the cooler because it'd hit my Hyper 212+'s heatpipes. I can attest, however, that a fan directly above the cooler has a negligible effect on temps as I tried it before with my Hyper TX3 and my load temps didn't drop.
