Overclocking 6950 -> 6970

Thread Starter
Hi guys,

Last year or something I bought a HIS Radeon HD 6950 "TURBO" and I unlocked it to the 6970 by modding it's bios only with the shader unlock (no oc, no PowerTune). However, now that BF3 is released (picked up a copy today, ****yea) I thought i should overclock it to the 6970 specs. So, how do I do this? Do I just bump up the sliders in AMD Catalyst and adjust the powertune setting or is there some voltage modding needed too?

Thanks for all replies.
You can download Sapphire Trixx or Afterburner to raise the core/memory clocks and voltage and test for stability with the OC settings. Play the games to test the OC is better to make sure you can play games without crashing.

Change the extension of the file to .reg instead of .txt

Check the registry patch and see if you have a 0001 and 0002 folder to.
If so change the reg file's line
"[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Con trol\\Class\\{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\\0000]"

TO

"[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Con trol\\Class\\{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\\0001]"

And so on.

Double click [enter] the file and run it.
Reboot PC and now you can reach higher clocks with CCC.

If you got 6970 voltage's from you bios mod to [1.175v] you should reach rather high clocks with that.

I got 930/1280mhz @ 1.065v - 950/1280mhz @ 1.1v - 1010/1280mhz @ 1.18v

Well, i didn't use any premade-bios'es. I ran a PHP script and it modded my bios with the unlocked shaders, not any else. What is the clock settings for the 6970 anyways?

"[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Con trol\\Class\\{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\\0001]"

And so on.

Does this work for any card? Because, I want to change the power option to +20 too.

I did the thing described above, however, the clocks are not unlocked. Also, how far do you guys think i can push the card with stock voltage? I know its not a guessing game and that I probably have to test and see it.

The above thing i mentioned does work, i could make screenshots if you like
You can also google it..

Your stock voltage is either 1.065v or 1.1v on a 6950.
I got 930/1280mhz @ 1.065v - 950/1280mhz @ 1.1v - 1010/1280mhz @ 1.18v

Got it working. Ive got 1.1v voltage. I reached 900 MHz core and 1280 MHz memory clocks. I tested with BF3, ran without artifacts. What gpu-stresstesting tools Are there, and whst should i look for (signs of trouble)?
