Fastest Game only SSD?

Thread Starter
Look for the fastest 64GB SSD. This will be used to load games only. Dont care on writes, but reads need to be blazing. Also, bc im
Not installing windows on it, do i need to configure this somehow?

M4 definitely then. It is more focused on reads than writes. 500Mb/s reads with 0009 firmware.

Crucial M4 if you want reliability.

Otherwise a Vertex 3 if they have fixed the issues with the drive.

My Corsair Force GT gets 560mb/s reads... And its only the 60gb version, the 90s+ are even faster. It also gets 490 write. I'm going to be getting another for raid0.
Synchronous nand ftw.
Plus the new firmware fixed a lot of the rare bsod issues.

+1 ForceGT, it beats the pants off of the M4s, and I've got one of those at work.

He's asking about gaming and you're quoting sequential read and write speeds that most users access less than 1% of the time???

A drive with great 4k reads is what he wants.

I've tested the M4 vs the Vertex 3 max iops in my sig. The M4 beats it hands down in 4k reads. And the Max iops is faster than the Force GT.

I am pretty sure you need sequential speeds too for game loading, just depends on the game

I can't think of any file large enough in a game to be able to reach sequential speed. Maybe a cutscene that does not use the ingame engine to render it.

There's a reason why the experts say we use sequential speeds less than 1%. I'm sure if games did, that number would be much higher.

Unless you need to watch that pre-rendered cutscene at 80x* speed, I don't think that's gonna be required. I reckon there are games that would benefit from fast sequential reads (loading levels, maps, etc) but I'm not sure if any of them will be able to hit the maximum sequential read speeds on high-end SSD's. At some point, there's bound to be diminishing returns.

*Blu-ray maxes out at ~50Mbps or 6.25MB/s which is what I used for the calculations.
