Congrats. Welcome to the wonderful world of having someone check your email for you. Why anyone would go with Blackberry this day in age still baffles me. We can't shed them fast enough at my work.

you gotta be kidding me, in real world working environments, everything is via "email" a business will NOT use RIM/Blackberry for its BBM. its the instant push email capability...BBM was just an incentive provided..besides, email/bbm service went down - yes, but the moment user's are at their work station, boom, emails are happening, and they're browsing the internet..and if a business deal was pending, a simple phone call to the prospective partner would've solved the issue. i'm sure RIM has made some compensations to all carriers they have contracts with..besides, u dont ever see APPLE coming out and say "we're sry", and let us make up to you, by dishin out $100 worth of apps. remember the "death grip" based on the phone design? well, apple insisted that wasn't an hardware/design issue, rather a "signal/software issue" lol?

As bes admin for my former company I can say that this is something worth suing for. The high level executives and those in situations that must be notified if there is a change in temperature change in the labs could result in the loss of million dollar contracts being pulled. This type of thing is a big deal.

Well I live in Canada and my work supplies me with a Blackberry. I could not use BBM or the internet. The only thing that was working was phone calls.

Erm. No.
You're paying for a data plan, but the cost included in that data plan is having that stuff routed through BB servers.

The outage did affect a lot of the managers at my work who travel a lot and rely on their BB's to stay connected during travel.

However, I would think a more-direct approach to all of this is subscribers taking issue with their phone contract providers, as opposed to an immediate class-action with RIM.

And it seems like RIM did offer some sort of compensation after the debacle was fixed. I don't know how one would monetize lost potential earnings strictly because of the RIM/BB outage, but surely their proposed compensation is fair, minus not compensating for personal frustrations?

Regardless, I think the RIM/BB is a dying trade. I know that my company has already started to migrate to iphone and android-based devices, and has no immediate intent to stay reliant on BB's.

I agree. I think BB is slowly starting to fade away as I see many people that are changing to iPhones and Android based phones due to the fact that they don't have to deal with outages like BB customers have been dealing with. Plus, There's more freedom and I'm pretty sure better hardware in the phones compared to BB's recently new line of phones.
