WHat GPU usage should I get in BC2 w/stock 6950 2gb on i5-2500K

the CPU is at about 50% on all cores, while the GPU just now never went over 93%, restarted GPUz with 20% powertune turned on and in 5-10min it never went over 89%

I'll try with vsync off, the problem I'm wondering about is why fps drops down as low as 20 sometimes when a bunch of C4 and a vehicle blows up

Should be getting right around 99%. I assume you have the latest drivers and CAP?

Should be ~99% constantly, that's what mine is at, and my CPU is significantly less powerful than a 2500k

with vsync, it holds 60fps most of the time, usage does hit 100%, but the avg. is more like 90% in GPUz, I'll have to test some more, I'll try msi:ab to get a better look at usage, GPUz says its not throttling, constant 800/1250, my card OCs well 900/1500 @stock V, but I shouldn't have to

and in big explosions like getting killed in a tank or suicide C4 bombing in a car or heli, it often drops down to 30fps, sometimes 20fps

does anyone else get that?

also popping smoke can drop it from its normal vsync 60fps down to 40,, but I still don't know what cause the drops like that, could it be related to my soundcard??? the audio is set to wartapes

I don't see anything from taskmanager CPU and ram usage that shows an anomally, CPU is about 50%, grand total ram used is only ~2.2GB

I'll try it without vsync

without vsync MSIAB says a steady 99%, with vsync its up and down %70 and into the %90s

alright, but it still drops way down from +60fps in big explosions/smoke

is that normal?

Can't tell you what it should be at but with or without vsync my rig stays around 99% in MSIAB, it's a 1GB card by the way.

...not really. 20 seems a bit low but given that you play normally with vsync on, it doesn't surprise me. If you're running 1080p or 1200p along side vsync, high AA, HBAO and all the other options cranked, sure. Try killing vsync and playing. The minimum frame rates w/o vsync won't be that bad.

Make sure you've got the game patched to the latest, it adds quite a bit of performance (if you're playing multiplayer, you already have the latest most likely).

I was getting 99% with one 6950.

With Crossfire I was getting 94% on the first card and 99% on the 2nd card.

Disable vsync. I get 99% usage in BC2 as should every card and I play with vsync off.

Vsyc won't prevent fps hits, it just prevents tearing. When I turn it on the GPU usage drops into the 60-70 percent range. This indicates that vsync sucks . Vsync should maintain 99% GPU usage ideally and use the extra power to generate extra frames and sync them. Theoretically it would make the low points less noticeable. In practice, it just takes the power needed to make 60fps and the card becomes fat and lazy when the explosions and challenges happen very suddenly.

tl;dr don't use vsync.

it still drops without vsync, I'll check the amount now soon, but I need vsync because otherwise the screen tears with it 70-80fps

3 weeks til CF, hope that works fine
