No video output when hyper threading is disabled? Forced to reset cmos...

Thread Starter
Putting together a system for my brother (some older parts), and noticed this weird issue. When I disable hyper threading, I no longer get any video output, the card is running(at least the fan on it is), but I get no video display...

***?

Setup is as follows.

XFX nForce 680iLT motherboard
Intel Pentium Extreme 965 cpu
and whatever gpu I use doesnt matter, radeon hd 2600xt, geforce 7800, geforce 6600oc, 6200oc... No video output when hyper threading is disabled.

And it's pretty annoying, because this cpu is damn hot, and I'd like to disable hyper threading to cool it down a bit.

At stock 3.73 ghz, runs idle at 50 c, max load 85c. And yes I need a new heatsink, but want to do what I can right now without underclocking too much.

Now it seems I am unable to reset cmos... Either that or all the pci and pcie slots just died, except for the part that gives power.

*** is wrong with this board?

Okay, after a while of battery removed put back in (too early) to reveal corrupt bios. So the clear cmos jumpers don't work... But the pcie and pci do.

Now I just need to figure out why I can't get any video to display when Hyper Threading is disabled. Any ideas?

Great, now it only rarely shows corrupt videos of it posting (and I assume it fails to post because I never get the windows login sound...), or get no video feed to my monitor...

That CPU is going to run hot no matter what its designed to. Its basically 2 Pentium 4 CPUs on one chip

Understandable. But that's not the problem at hand...

The problem(s) are:

First, I can't disable hyper threading without the motherboard bios crashing to all hell...

Second, I can't restore the bios no matter what I try. I've used and abused the clear cmos jumpers. I've had the battery removed, while jumpered to clear, for 4 hours, and that didn't work. Hell, the only time I've gotten response was when I tried the hold insert and start trick, and that just gave me a corrupt post screen.

The whole time, it's failed to post, never even go to the point to flash the keyboard lights. And changing cpu's, gpu's, and ram does nothing.

This is scary... I was about to disable hyper-threading to see if it removed some stuttering from BF3. Now I'm not so sure.

I wouldn't worry unless you are running the same setup I am. Pentium extreme 965 and xfx nforce 680iLT...
