Advice. new comp to overclock..for O.C noob - Page 2

You can overclock your ram, but most people don't bother on socket 1155. Its not worth the hassle or the risk of instability. It will shorten their lifespan for no noticeable performance gain.

Shouldn't there be FSB and RAM for 1 / 2 for better overclocking stability?

Also, Koozie, The first thing you need to look into is PSU, if you are going to OC that is.

There's no FSB adjustment in sandy bridge overclocking, it's pretty much just multi and voltage.

It doesn't work like that on sandy bridge chips. Those have an bus speed of 100 which cant be changed much (this is like the fsb of before, but it also includes things like the pci-e bus too, which is why it cant be changed much), and a multiplier that's much higher than the older chips, like 33 or 40.

And that whole thing of 1:1 fsb:dram is a myth anyway.

Will a reasonable brand 750w be sufficient to power say...3.6-3.7ghz

Easilly.

You could run that on a 600w psu with no problem whatsoever and still have some headroom to spare. In fact a high quality 600w would be much better than a cheap rubbish 750w.

Confirmed.

You must look into brand first and then into Watts. Cheap and average PSU manufacturers still hold the policy that average customer is going to buy cheaper and higher rated PSU than a more expensive but lower rated one.
