Hi guys

Im interested in getting into this new AMD HD3D technology so that I can watch 3d movies and play games such as battlefield 3 in 3D. But before I take the plunge, just a few questions if I may

In order to use AMD's 3D technology all I need is a standard 3D 120hz+ monitor / tv right? where as with the nvidia version you need an IR receiver + special glasses (£100ish extra) yes?

Would this TV work for AMD 3D out of the box? and if anybody has experience with this TV is it any good?
http://www.ebuyer.com/269742-lg-3d-tv-32in-32lw450u-aek

and the main question.... is AMD's 3D technology really any good? i've seen 3d movies at the cinema and I really was blown away by how good it was.... are these home systems just as good?

p.s. I have an ATI 6950 (2 gig)

thanks guys!

I will say this :

It is unbelieveably awsome......I was blowen away. 3D gaming is a step just as massive compared to when tv's went from black and white to colour ...I just cannot stop using my 3D monitor for games (oh and stock up on batteries for your glasses , mine are not rechargeable)

Anyways....you need a 120hz monitor.

You CANNOT use crossfire with 3D only one card.

You will need glasses and a 3D capable monitor.

You will not regret it...trust me

Another question, would this TV work?
http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-e...00000000005702

It's perfect for 3D spec wise (Plasma > LCD any day), just not sure how compatibility works.

Is there any hope if I have crossfire 6850s? I hear 3D is demanding, and a single 6850 may struggle a bit with some 3D titles.

Also, just wondering, how many games actually work with HD3D? Skyrim and BF3 are on the top of my list.

thanks for the reply, would that 3d tv that I linked up work straight out the box for my ATI 6950? Im sure I read that you just need a standard 3dtv but just making sure.... apparently that tv comes with glasses, not the shutter kind but the 3d cinema type so you dont need batteries for them.... is there much of a difference?

anything else I should know? do you need to purchase some driver to play games in 3d? Im sure I had read that somewhere

oh and I also read that if your gaming at 1080p you only get 24hz (24 frames per second?) will this be a drawback for high end games?

thanks

From what I have tested all games work fine with 3D using tridef although the two games u mentioned are not out yet....

You are right , 3d makes the GPU render the image twice....so it halves your power....right now crossfire does NOT work....its a damn shame it doesent and im really pissed off......I have to lower settings cos a single 6970 is not enough to play 1080P in 3D and i cant even use my second card!!!

Anyways the TV you posted is fine...and what you could do is use the tv's 2d-> 3D conversion instead of using your cards to do the 3D...its not as good compared to your GPU rendering the 3D but it is really cool and its better than not having 3D atall (I use this if I need to use crossfire)

Anyways for 3D specifically I would reccomend nvidia...there 3D is better reasons why :

Works with Multi-GPU setups

Thats the main reason.......

No, you need a 120hz MONITOR that has true 120hz input, and for AMD it has to be one with a display port, and you can't use crossfire with amd hd3d, at least not yet

well unfortunately its an ATI card I have, and im sure that ATI will eventually update their drivers to allow crossfire for 3D (well I hope)

so do I need to purchase some driver to enable 3D gaming?
and do I need to purchase a special player to watch 3D movies?
and I assume im going to need a blu-ray drive aswell

what exactly are you saying no to here? that the LG tv I posted wont work?
according to the specs it has a 400hz refresh rate (I assume due to it being an LED tv)

what exactly is this "true 120hz input" and whats wrong with HDMI?

it wont work because, first of all it doesn't support 120hz input, and second of all it doesn't have a display port

this is assuming you want 1080p, if 720p is your thing then one of those might work, im not sure

I see, thankyou.... are you sure that tv doesnt support 120hz input... I assume the 400hz it boasts is a seperate thing? some of those recommended tv's dont mention anything about a display port, but mention in order to fully run a home 3d system you need HDMI

thats unfortunate as that TV was a real good price
does anybody know off the top of their head any supported tv's/monitor's that are in the £400 ish range

porky: what tv/monitor are you using for your AMD card?
