Buying Gaming Rig today, GTX 570 or 6950?

Thread Starter
Okay, I love Nvidia drivers and cards...but then I saw a thread on the 6950 and how it can be unlocked to a 6970...and they have a 2GB version...so the question is, should I get the GTX 570 for around $350, or get a 2GB 6950 and unlock it for $100 dollars less? Also, if you could link me to which version can be unlocked of the 6950, and also your opinion of the best overclockable GTX 570, I'd appreciate it. Thanks

I Would go with the GTX 570, Nvidia cards are usually more supported in games these days, seen as Nvidia pays developers to make the game work extra well with thier card, like BF3.

Best overclockable GTX 570 Is the MSI GTX 570 TwinFrozr III / Power edition, More stable overclocks and 3x the extra over voltage

Get a 6950 toxic if you can find one, they have a good chance of unlocking to a 6970, have a great cooler, and then you can join the toxic club...

I have 2 6950 that are unlocked. I would take that over the 570 any day. You can not find 6950's that unlock new anymore, you need to buy them used. I may have one for sale later today.

Funnily enough I was just saying to my GF that I was sick of seeing "Nvidia, the way it's ment to be played" Plastered all over the front of games

I personally would go with ATI too, they seem to give you more "Bang for your buck" than NVidia and I've not had a problem with them, unlike my 8800GTX and 6600 before that.

KS1 Is right, Toxic cards will more than likely be able to be overclocked better than the rest.

What do you mean you can't buy them new any more?
Also, there are a ton of people on NewEgg who are just flipping a switch and unlocking the Toxic cards still.

Maybe they are lying or this is different?

Yes, that's why SLI seems to be having lots of problems.

Honestly, i would just get a 6970 as it is seeming to be harder to find cards that unlock, and the 6970 would be just as fast as the 570 (Or faster in some cases) and is still cheaper at most stores.

I bought a evga gtx570 a few days ago and I'm so happy with my purchase. I got the standard one, not the hd or sc version. I plan on picking up another one tomorrow so that I can SLI those bad boys.

I could not be happier with my purchase I had a palit gtx 460 platinum SC edition. And that thing just sucked and ran way to hot for my liking. I'm getting about 20 more fps in the witcher 2 with everything on ultra and uber turned off. Once I get some water blocks on them I will over clock the crap out of them.

But just my 570 alone is pretty sweet, hope this helped.

I would go with the 6950 over the GTX 570. Get the 6950 Toxic on NewEgg, very high possibility that it will unlock and Sapphire has amazing customer support.
