New graphics card(s) - Page 2

If you highly overclock 2x gtx580,
according to me a 850w psu will be very close,
for 2x gtx580 a 1000w psu will be appropriate.
Seasonic platinum 1000 is the best 1000w psu right now.

What if I buy a single 590? Its only 5-10% more expensive than a 580 Lightning Extreme...

Would that be advisable?

I really dont like a lot the gtx 590 they downloaded the clocks so much that is more like a gtx 570 than a gtx 580 if your considering the 590 i would go for the 6990 it has much more OC potential... or and SLI of gtx 570

590 and 6990 are out of the equation after several reviews said they got considerable hotter and performed worse than 2x 580 1,5GB cards.

I'm sticking to my plan of getting one 580 3B Lightning Extreme now, and buy´n run SLI 580's next year when prices are lower.

get a reference 580. it will probably be easier to find a 580 reference over a lightning extreme to buy in 1-2 years.

In general though, the SLI setup will offer much better performance for the money, but you do get the occassional SLI issue.

GTX 580 is a great card, but actually horrendous in terms of performance for the cost. For example, it cost's ~38% more than a 2.5gb GTX 570, but only get ~15%-20% more performance.
all top-end cards are, it comes with the territory.

And, GTA IV, Rage, and BF3 would like to say hello. those 3 games eats up more than 1 GB Vram, with Rage eating up a whopping 2033 mb of Vram when using 16k texture config with 16xaa.

so yea, 1 GB isn't cutting it anymore.

Like this one ?

That one was my original 580 pick, mainly because of the TwinFrozr II cooler.

Do you guys believe that 1.5GB of vRAM will be enough for gaming on a single monitor in a resolution of 1920x1600 for the next 2 years?

That msi gtx580 twin frozrII is a non-reference card.
I would say the 3gb version will do the trick.
Get the cheapest gtx580 3gb and you are happy for next two years.

Yeah, but I can't stop thinking about the fact that even the cheapest 580 3gb cost the same as 2x MSI 560 Ti TwinFrozr 2GB cards.
You think two of those would make me even happier?
