Yes, this is all very frustrating. I was JUST about to pull the trigger on a really nice 4TB NAS system.....and then THIS crap happens. A few examples:

Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB- WAS: $44.99. Now... $99.99. Link

Hitachi Deskstar 3TB- Was: $139.99. Now.... $399.99. Link

WD Cavi Black 1 TB is ACTUALLY not that bad right now in comparison with the prices on other drives... It's $149.99 right now, so I think they only raised the price twenty or so dollars.

EDIT: Samsung SpinPoint F3's are actually not too bad at $79.99 right now. Link
But it's sold out....

Seriously I was looking at Newegg.com this morning and couldn't believe the price inflation on HDD's. Thank god I just finished building this system and stocked up on a few more HDD's at decent prices last week.

WD got hit the hardest by the flooding while Seagate got lucky and said it's factories were still running. However, that won't mean much if it's supply chain is disrupted as well. Apple, HP, Dell and the rest have all said that it's going to affect the entire PC industry for quite some time.

I almost grabbed one more Samsung F4 2TB a couple of months ago when they were $80 - now $130 and who knows how much more next month. The SSD industry is supposed to benefit qutie a bit from this. Guess prices on those drives won't be coming down anytime soon...

I also wonder how this affects RMAs since it looks like I have a bad OS drive now
