USB 3.0 driver woes

Thread Starter
Recently bought an ASUS K53TA-XE2 notebook with USB 3.0, now I'm having a hell of a time trying to get USB 3.0 to work! The notebook shipped with a Seagate Momentus drive which I promptly tossed into my desk drawer and replaced with a WD Scorpio Black, and did a fresh Win7 install. Everything's working fine except the damn USB 3 port! There doesn't appear to be a driver available for it on Asus' support page, and Windows Update comes up with nothing. Did a ton of googling and there is apparently no generic driver for it available either. I have a USB 3 external drive with 200GB of music and movies that I'd like to copy over but not too thrilled at the idea of having to do it over USB 2. Halp? frown.gif

The main chipset/MB driver package should have the USB 3.0 driver support.

Failing that, does the original HDD still have the Win 7 install on it? If so, plug it back in, use a driver extractor tool (just google for one), save the drivers, swap HDDs again, load the drivers from the extraction.

Should be done!

Open the device manager -> run "devmgmt.msc" and see if there are any unknown devices. If so, right click on them -> properties -> details -> dropdown to "hardware id" then google the PCI/ven and you'll find a driver.

But the driver will definitely be on the manufacturer page, you just gotta look. The names can be funny sometimes.

Post the model of the laptop or the pci/ven and I can see if I can find it.

It's funny because I ended up having to put the stock drive with the original Windows 7 installation back in yesterday because the WD Scorpio "upgrade" drive failed. rolleyes.gif Went into the Device Manager and hunted down the elusive driver, a file called amdxhc.sys. When the RMA replacement gets here I'll use this. Thanks! biggrin.gif
