[Build Log] Willistech Corsair 500R Build

Will be updating this as I get the install completed. Got pictures going and install has begun. More to come later.

SORRY IN ADVANCE FOR POOR PICTURES. I forgot my camera and had to use my work blackberry (ew)

First impressions:

1. fan connectors for front 2 fans need to be modified if you use aftermarket fans.
2. paint is awesome on these. side panels are super thick the internal panels are a little thin but better than most.
3. top fans DO have a fan filter.
4. damn its nice being able to pick up and spin the case without standing up (comparing to 800D lol)

Pre-game:

Box:

Packaging: Removed top foam for viewing

Appleton-20111027-00043.jpg

Top fan filter(that someone said didn't exist):

Appleton-20111027-00044.jpg

2x 140mm fans installed at the top the rubber around the 120mm holes also support the 140mm fans to prevent vibration. Different mounting screws for 140mm however (included):

Appleton-20111027-00045.jpg

2x 120mm fans mounted at the front. One HD cage needs to be removed to get access to both fans

First problem connectors for fan controller are different than regular 3pin:

Solved by removing the tabs:

Second issue found while installing PSU rivets for button were in the way of getting the thing in all the way and getting the holes lined up. It brought the back of the unit about 1/16" too high:

these are aluminum so you can removed the extra sleeve junk that is in the way with a snips or a dremel or even a file

Only had the 2 issues 1 with the connectors and the other with the rivet by the power supply. Otherwise very straight forward. All the paint is still like new the quality is very good. Thanks for looking

only made one change so far and thats removing the vented pci cover above the gpu and put in a solid one to help move more air under the card.

Thanks for the excellent photos! I've forwarded them onto our quality control team to look into. When you have issues like this, photos really help. We haven't seen this in-house so it's not 100% of cases - but we'll look into it. Thanks again!

Hi George. Yes the only 'quality control' issue I saw were the rear rivets. Otherwise the case was flawless. After thinking about it the 3pins that are in the case are probably like that to control the lights maybe? A lot of people that buy the case may not swap out the fans, but its an easy fix really.

Some of the reviews were hot and cold, and to be honest some people who bought the case had negative things to say. So I thought I would just share this with the forum on my experience.

Yes, the three-pin proprietary fan connectors are to control the LED on/off in the lights. The third RPM sensor wire was replaced on our stock fans with a toggle power lead for the LEDs in the fans.

As for quality control issues, our return/RMA rate is very low so far. It's selling exceptionally well for us, and my guess is that the majority of comments online are just because of its popularity and our failure rate/QC rate is still about the same as it is with other parts. That being said, I've already talked to our QC group about the pad thickness for the PSU mounting and a couple of other small things I've read here on OCN (and one thing I saw myself but only on one case).

It's a really good case for the price, I think, and compared to other cases in its price range I think it blows a lot of them out of the water with its flexibility and ease of installation.

We've got more cases in the pipeline still - and we're learning something new with each different family.

Some of the ones coming up in the next year or two will blow you guys away. smile.gif

Well George after my 800D and now 500R i'm a customer for life. Both we're absolutely a joy to put together. As always thank you very much for commenting its nice to see manufacturer presence on forums such as these.
