IMO they're going to have plenty of those great giveaway deals because they're soon going to be making more money selling your info than they would selling you games. If Google and Facebook can be worth Billions primarily on mostly optional datamining, imagine what Origin will be worth scanning everyones harddrives.

That makes them a bigger middle than they need to be, some thing around 85-90% or even 95% should be given to developers/publishers. They aren't boxing and shipping, simply giving steam a batch of files to be mass distributed around the world. Don't give me crap about server cost, those are easily paid for by any company every.
I don't know whether to laugh, poker face or rage at you. You really have no idea what you're talking about.

The way you say they take a 'cut' of the profits, it would seem that they're reaching into the devs pockets directly. DD's like Steam actually give more revenue back to the Developer per game sold than B&M does b/c B&M must pay for transportation, lights, employees and theft.

They are retailers just like Best Buy, Target, GameStop, etc. They sell the games at a price that the developer has majority control over. If Steam were to permanently reduce the price of games that are sold on their store, you would do two things:
  1. Force Brick & Mortar to reduce prices to compete, creating a cycle that ends up with brick&mortar being priced out of the market entirely. In this scenario, B&M stop carrying PC games
  2. Have B&M throw a huge fit, threatening to instantly drop any games that they can't compete on. That's a HUGE blow to sales for any dev that they just can't have.

How do you figure they're abusing their status? What anti-trust laws have they broken? Who have they pushed out of the DD market? Who have they paid off? No one.

That's right, it's perfectly OK because they like steam. I say SCREW THAT BS. Just because they like a platform doesn't mean it's OK because it works for them.
Lets go over why Steam/Valve is loved and Origin/EA is hated:
  1. Valve does VOLUNTARY scans for HARDWARE info that it uses to help devs make better games. EA does forced HARDDRIVE scans for DATAMINING info that it uses to sell to advertisers
  2. Valve, itself being an indie dev that rose to the big ranks, supports indie devs. EA has a long, storied history of taking over indie devs, closing them down and mothballing their beloved IP.
  3. Valve, more times than not, gives you massive bang for your buck and updates their games for free many times. EA is all about chopping off parts of the game in an effort to make you buy DLC.
  4. Valve, more times than not, treats their games like an artform. They don't rush, they don't focus on deadlines and they release it WHEN ITS READY. EA is the master of the rushjob and has already rushed out 4 major titles with serious issues at launch just this year ( DeadSpace 2, Crysis 2, Dragon Age 2, BF 3 )
  5. Valve, more times than not, gets their customer service right. EA has several run-ins with our very own forum members where they basically threw up the middle finger and told the guys to buy the game again. ( non-hacking issues )
  6. Valve allows you to re-download the games you buy whenever you want. No time limit. EA will make games available for a minimum of 1 year but can make them unavailable after that point. EA can also delete your account if you're inactive for 2 yrs or if you get banned in the forums.

You finally make sense in one part of your post. I would be completely, 100% open to Origin and BF3 would already be in my collection if Origin would stop datamining people.

You act like 1 store always has the lowest price. Shop around. Do you rage at Best Buy when their price is $20 more than newegg.com or do you just go to newegg.com and buy it? Plus keep in mind that all these Brick & Mortars have their eye on Steam. Amazon they can't affect because it's a bunch of personal sellers, but if a major player like Steam starts selling games at $8 when it's on the shelves at Best Buy for $30, what do you think the outcome will be?

Not only that but it's hypocritical for you to cry 'oh poor developers, steam takez teh m0nez' earlier, then talk about $8 Amazon games. $30 Steam games = $20 to dev. $8 Amazon games = $2 to dev after shipping.

Nice to see EA expanding it a bit, can't wait for ME3
Steam is slower because of all those games you have on your account

I seriously feel that EA are going to pay off major devs to make their content Origin exclusive at worst. The most likely case will be forcing them to delay the release of the game/content onto Steam.

That's the EA i know oh so well. They only know how to play dirty... Tis sad i tell you.
