I really dislike double-line prompts, or whatever you would call them.

TMI. I'll be surprised if you don't cut that prompt down to size within a week.

The only thing I added to the normal prompt is the line feed and the seconds; the rest is only visible conditionally - most importantly, if I'm in a git repo, and I do a lot of git'ing. I've been using a large colorful prompt for two years. I may find myself removing the line feed at some point, though, but that's it - in fact, I'm considering adding support for subversion and bazaar.

Yea that's a whole lot of color and text for every prompt if you spend a lot of time in bash.

I'm cut down to almost the bare minimum necessary: username, hostname, current directory, $. When logged in as root, the prompt is red; this is as far as I've gone past the minimum necessary.

I used to use a prompt that was "epic" like that, but then I realized why do I need the time in my prompt its at the bottom.

Past that I changed my icons to a red theme when going into pcmanfm in root.

Ha. I work on so many different servers with so many different usernames, that I have to display the hostname and username, or I'd be completely lost.
