I'm still on 9.04 lol.
10.10 is amazing. I've been using 10.04 ever since it came out and I never thought about going to 10.10 I just didn't see the need for it. My desktop died and my netbook was running really slow with multi boot and I decided to just wipe the whole thing and start with a new ub install. I am very impressed with 10.10 even over 10.04 it's way more polished IMO. It's so fast on my netbook I have learned to love my netbook which is something I have never warmed up to in the 12 months I've had the thing.

Going from 9.04 I think you will be very impressed with 10.10 but it just depends on what you're looking for. If 9.04 works for you and you see no need to update then.... don't. I'm not a big enough linux geek to know if there is anything 10.10 offers that you can't get with 9.04 so maybe someone else can help out. I know a quick google search would.

You found 10.10 on your netbook fast? Were you running the normal or Unity UI?

I imagine it would be. Both that and the 10.04 (and older) interfaces are speedy. Unity though...

The only problem I have, is the looks of 10.10. I'm used to the whole orange and grey thing. I just hate how they keep making it more and more pretty. If I wanted something pretty, I'd stick with Windows or throw Hackintosh up on my computer.

Just the standard 32 bit gnome desktop. 1.6 single core atom and 1gb ram and I have it plugged into my 25" 1920 x 1080 tv @ 1920 x 1080. The boot time in win7 on this machine took ages. And then once I had firefox open I couldn't open more than 3 tabs without it slowing down like a snail in molasses. In 10.10 I have 11 tabs open, have pithos playing pandora radio and I'm chatting in evolution with out a hitch. Ubuntu ftw.

There's plenty of butt ugly themes out there. You can even make your version of 10.10 look exactly like 9.04. But like I said, if there's nothing worth upgrading to you keep what works.

Dude, this is Linux. If you didn't want to customise then why are you running it?

Canonical have done a great job with boot up and shut down times. My netbook, with a single-core Atom and a 5400RPM HDD, shuts down as fast as (and sometimes just faster than) my i7 desktop does with an OCZ Vertex.

I guess then you don't know the reason why Linux was created... It wasn't made for customization...

Who cares what it was created for? If that's all you use it for then you've got nothing but a glorified terminal emulator

Linus created Linux because he wasn't satisfied with MINIX. Eg, he wanted something more open and customizable.

Just saying...
