That's cool and all. But some of us aren't using desktops.
My Dell Inspiron 2200, 32bit Celeron M processor.
My HP Mini 311, 32bit Intel Atom processor.

When you're using devices that are RAM limited, every bit counts. Especially on my Dell.
Only has 768MB of RAM. So trying to get the minimal amount of RAM possible on boot is essential.
Same with my Mini 311. Only has 2GB of RAM. But 512MB of that goes to the Nvidia ION.

Have you tried VDPAU playback on that ION? I'm wondering how it does. I've heard a lot of windows users say that the ION+Atom doesn't have the muscle for 1080p/FHD playback but I wanted to hear from a Linux user.

Oh. I only looked at it and though..."he's got one tab open and 900MB!?". Stupid me. doh.gif
I'll have to look into it more but it seems like FF is still using more RAM than Chrome.

I finally got it working last night. VLC Player doesn't take advantage of the GPU at all. The CPU spikes up high while you don't see any GPU usage even when adding post processing and making sure GPU acceleration is on.

I was able to get it working via MPlayer last night, though it stumped me for quite sometime. I had thought it was a network issue and the fact I wasn't able to stream 3GB 720p video from my NAS. That wasn't the case, it looks like I had to set the Post Processing to max for it to be able to load the GPU. When I did that. I was finally able to play 720p video without any noticeable issues.

As for YT 720p/1080p videos, it doesn't off load anything onto the GPU.
Will test a 1080p file later and see what happens. But pointless as the screen is only 1366x768.

Now when I owned a HP Mini 110 (no ION, just GMA950) I was able to play 720p videos in VLC without any issues. So this stumps me.
Also, my HP Mini 311 is OC'd to 2Ghz.

search arch linux ssh. they have 2 wikis, one for setting up the ssh server, and one for setting up ssh keys and login. it's very descriptive/helpful.
