anyone here know how to get xfce (4.8) to shift though a list of wallpapers at an interval? theres some scripts i'm going to try but just wondering if anyone know for sure off the bat
post #3732 of 7733

got cycling to work smile.gif got to make a wallpaper list and set xfce to reload at interval (ie 30 min for me) anyway now I'm trying to get xfce to give me some tiling thumb.gif was going to use kwin but even in the most minimal kde packaging it installs like 100 packages eh-smiley.gif any other ideas? I just want a hot key to arrange the windows in an easy to access way. considered using compiz shift but compiz is broken in testing. there are patches for xfwm but I'd rather not. any ideas?

You can get manual tiling to a certain degree with Openbox, or you can use a separate app such as tile-windows or pytyle, which with a key press will automatically tile your opened windows. You could even run something like awesome or xmonad along Xfce for some better tiling features.

I thought KDE/kwin lost or were going to lose tiling (besides basic side-by-side) so I wouldn't recommend it for anything beyond the basic side-by-side.

There's always E17 and the tiling profile. Or you could just setup keys for maximizes left and maximize right.

I vote DWM or XMonad with XFCE panel. thumb.gif

it's a shame I see not much Awesome(WM) love here.
@Shrak I had issues sticking a panel in a tiling WM, tint2 as example doesn't always stick at the bottom, plus there's the "dissapearing tray icons" issue (skype, dropbox, etc).
I would personally code a tray area and the window list in the WM itself.

Which window manager did you use? I know DWM can be done fairly easy and (at least for me ) has worked flawlessly in the past. But by far XMonad is the best to use for it in my experiences while toying with the whole panel idea.

ok, both e17 and dwm fail to work for me. maybe you can tell whats going wrong. with e17 it fails to start Ecore_X what ever the hell that is. with dwm it says it missing a couple of fonts, ok, but then fails to open any terminals (alt+shift+enter) making it kind of usless. it starts them, but they fail/close right way (like blink of the eye)
