I love the dark look.... I use Xfce and haven't had much luck putting together something pleasing.... I guess I'm too picky...

The wallpaper is what makes or breaks it, in my opinion there is nothing better than a good fractal wallpaper. I have always been to lazy to make my own, here is a tutorial on how and a collection of some previously rendered ones (including the ones I used), or just Google around.

Also there is a lot of good stuff at www.kde-look.org/ for KDE, so you could probably find some good stuff at www.xfce-look.org/.

Wallpaper isn't the problem for me. (Sweet lookin' stuff in that link you posted BTW.) It's the Xfce Panels that make me nuts. You can make and edit a .gtk2rc file in your home dir and fiddle with and get some results.. If you enable composting via Window Manager Tweaks it leaves a lot to be desired. Oh well. I still love Xfce because of it's speed. But I admire KDE and Gnome for it's customizations...

Peace!!

Eh, check out Wii-Black, its been ported to XFCE and GTK. Best dark theme I've ever used. The vrunner skin for compiz is very nice.

Isn't there some sort of transparency for the panel?

Yeah, you can get can transparency by enabling compositing via Window Manager Tweaks/Compositing. It then adds compositing to the panel properties menu. But not true transparency like Gnome/KDE... If you max the transparency after enabling compositing you lose everything (icons, text, etc) I've scoured the Xfce Wiki and Docs and as of now there is no "real" transparency. You can get transparent looking panels by writing and fiddling with a .gtk2rc file in your home dir and setting the background color to match your desktop color... Works great if you have no wallpaper or your wallpaper color is solid on top or bottom... Works lousy of your color is dark... Then you can't see any text....

This is the only complaint I have with Xfce.... Other than that It's perfect for me and suits my needs as a gamer because of it's small footprint... Maybe they'll implement in the future... Although that would probably effect performance ...(?)

Oh well... Thanks for your interest... I really appreciate your time and effort...
