Elementary isn't an OSX clone, it's a sleek minimalistic and extremely clean theme. Unfortunately Apple beat them to that look.

PearOS is just that though, a clone. Look at the name, pear..... what fruit is it's closest cousin wink.gif And it's actually not the first time a pear has replaced apple in many modded or hacked firmware/software for devices trying to be an apple clone.

My problem seems to be that stupid sparse file error after GRUB menu (which I had when I tried btrfs with Fedora and buntu based distros a year ago).
I don't know why but I'm kind of wanting to have the MeeGo gui for some reason.

It's also worth keeping in mind that Apple didn't invent the "dock bar." They sure did make it pretty, though.

The only thing is it make sure it doesn't get full. I read somewhere that dealing with a full partition is still a major weak point. Might have changed, I don't know. With the snapshots growing in disk use as you change things I'd think it could sneak up on you. I also plan to shrink my /home a little and grow my / from its 15gb when I upgrade. That's a pretty big data turnover.
EDIT---
no thats naultilus, and its 3.4 (are you thinking of 3.6 shrak?)

normally they grow slowly as you change things, but since I'd be converting and then upgrading I'd except at least a couple of gbs of turn over in data, most likely more

Because of the nature of linux. Free open source alternative to something a potential user is familiar with.

Elementary isn't as bad as Pear at the ripoff but it still has so much in its window decoration theme and programs that are just blatant like Noise...I don't think I've seen a iTunes knock off of that daring in a while. And I do get the "why" as SM points out...but it is more of a "why clone the look of OSX"? I mean not even then window wannabes are that much of knock offs. I guess I'm just frustrated that people think mimicking OSX is the way to get a broader audience when there is so much more potential to create unique GUIs that can be so much better. Then again this is also that whole question as to why Gnome is the implied de facto.

I don't see how it relates to gnome, but in anwser to that part: qt used to be in part non-FOSS, so the GNU pushed its desktop (gnome) HARD. once they got red hat and debian on board basically the idea of any other desktop became a complete after thought. since gnome 3 this faith has been shaken a bit, but the fact that the majority of programs for linux are gtk+ you might have to swollow your pride some on this. that said, what do you have against gtk/ for qt?

GTK in qt has never worked properly, especially with dark(black) themes. I have to spend time creating custom color schemes as GTK programs act up. And despite being told by others...when I went without GTK integrations (Chakra and some other distros)...things were faster. I guess I will have to swallow it as I don't ever think there will be a change on the implied de facto.

I honestly think you focus on things that you shouldn't be. PearOS is built to be a blatant ripoff, so what? they aren't forcing you to use it. Elementary is going for a more sleek and professional look, not ripping off OSX, unfortunately that look is pretty limited when you choose to use lighter colors in the white / light-grey range.

People don't think mimicking OSX is a way to get a broader audience, they just want a good looking OS. And if it does bring in some people, then great.

If you think there is honestly "that" much potential, then quit crying about what other people are doing and go do it yourself. As the old saying goes " if you want something done right, do it yourself ". If you don't know how, then learn how. If you're too lazy to learn how, then just quit the bickering. No one is forcing to use PearOS or Elementary, so just ignore them and be on your way.

Linux is about choice, so don't get your panties in a bundle with what other people are doing.

there are only so many ways to make a rectangle with rounded corners a desktop with a dock and panel

Yup. Well, at least, only so many ways that look good. Because let's face it, there's thousands of styles out there, but only a handful look decent at best, and even fewer actually look good and are usable on a day-to-day basis.
