The third one is proberly the best,
it doesn't use the rule of thirds so
will be alot easier on the eye in the long
run because your eyes are directed to the
centre of the desktop and not the sides.

Agreed. They both have their good and bad points. If you look at the poll though, I voted for Gnome, and I've used KDE since last December and love it and haven't messed with Gnome since.
