It's not a command line program, but kmenuedit will fix them.
kmenuedit -> edit -> restore

Do I need to reboot because nothing changed. My kickoff and krunner still don't work as they did before.

On the plus side I think KDE and E17 are fine on the same system but you can't use them together and I want KDE and openbox to work together not fight like this. Gah...I have no idea what to do with the xdg stuff mentioned earlier. I guess something like keeping program lists from conflicting is difficult? No wonder I'm not a programmer. redface.gif

So no one else is able to reproduce this problem? Sad as it is I made a bug report with KDE and I have a sinking feeling they're just going to ignore it. I guess it doesn't count as a bug right?

You mean need to restart KDE.
Have a play around with that app though.

I must really be stupid because I made manual entries and still no fix. There has to be some way to get KDE and openbox to play nice.

Maybe time to try another WM with KDE?

But I want to know what I've done wrong. Everyone else seems to not have this problem (or maybe they just don't care about it?). Plus, I want to figure out how DEs/WMs know what programs are installed and how they can then organize and display them in a "menu". I'm not the only one to have this problem but it seems no one else has cared since 2011 about this.

anyway, still getting arch all set up (going for a compiz standalone at the moment, will add openbox and dwm later) but I thought I'd post an LMDE shot for now, since it will be the only debian distro on my machine at least the time being.
